I was reading this articale with great interest, thought it was well done. I do have a question though: I don't have my bike close at hand; it's at the dealership in storage, but when the author, Douglas, has an issue with his throttle body, and his unorthodox fix, I can't seem to visualize the problem, and solution. If someone else that has read the articale, can perhaps include some photo's of where exactly the problem was. Perhaps then I can understand how a can, and a sardine can could have helped. My ride is a R 1150 R so I assume the motors are similiar enough. He did mention it was the throttle body...wherever that is.

one thing that goes bad for the thottle bodies is the butterfly spring that the throttle cables are attached to.... mine had worn out and were loose as the spring that is housed in the throttle body (if my thinking is still clear to what was explain to me..) you cant rebuild the units... and the left one is were the computer unit is and is a $400.00 piece... up north the fine particle size of the mud and grit can get into the spring and wear it out or cause it to stick in a bad way... i had a similar problem after a day in the rain heading from Fort Nelson to Dawson Creek... it only wanted to work at full throttle... my solution was more simple than what Doug needed... his seems to have suffered some damage from a fall.... i used some carb. cleaner on the butterfly spring cord part on the inside and then some carb lube to keep any more gunk gunking it up... soved my problem....

it looks like from the article that they just mad a pully type of device for the throttle body to open and close it as Doug would twist the throttle control on the handle bars.... this looks to be done from when he writes they looped the shock cord through the hole in the throttle pully where the spring hook (now borken off) would have hooked into making the throttle pully spring back into the closed position when no throttle is being issued... and then countered the shock cord to bounce back thus closing the throttle body pully to a fixed point on the front frame... now this makes sense to this UFO but someone my differ and have more exacting explaination...
