On a chilly snowy ride tonight I thought I noticed some klunking at hiway speed just an occasional klunk. I thought maybe road /suspension combo.

However after arriving home and as I was manuvering in the driveway and garage there was a definite klunk when I would pop the clutch out to the friction point, almost every time.

does this sound like a dealer warranty issue? Or is this normal for the '04 1150RS

If it is still under warranty, take it to the dealer. If they say they all do that, you at least have it on record that it was doing it during the warranty period. Then if you have problems later you have basis for a claim.

Hate to say it, but my first reaction to a "clunk" when you engage the clutch is a drive spline issue. Could be the spline of the clutch friction disc on the engine output shaft. Could be one or both of the driveshaft splines.

How many miles on the bike? Have the clutch and driveshaft splines been checked and greased?

Definitely, take it to the dealer for their opinion, especially if there is any warranty remaining on the bike.

Dealer tech says it sounds normal to him. I guess I'm just not used to the unique charicteristics of this shaft drive yet.

only 22,000 miles and she runs great and shifts as good or better than the old (60's) Harleys I used to ride. But I don't think that much, if any thing, has been dealer serviced or inspected. I just bought a manual I guess I will referance it.
