I have an 03 RT with 25K miles and 12K since the last clutch change by the dealer under warranty. That time it was the slave cylinder leaking and wetting the clutch disk, thus a slipping problem. Today on my way home from Bike Week 2007 comming up on I-95 I ran up through the gears to around 85MPH (I know too fast but fun) and shifted to 6th. Continueing to roll on the throttle the engine did so but not the bike, clutch slipping, rolling off and driving normal everything OK. Does this sound like time to change it again to you all, and if so does any one make high performance stuff for the clutch? Or is their some other fix as I know that it should have lasted much longer than 13K miles? Thanks Mark

First off, other than the slave cylinder failure, the original clutch plate should last FAR longer. I got over 60,000 miles on my first clutch, and then I just replaced the friction plate, good for another 40,000 miles. At almost 110,000 miles I did a complete clutch assembly replacement. I did all of this work myslef, on my 94 R100RS.

Now at 115,000 miles I finally replaced the clutch cable although it had not failed.

No, your clutch should go at least 50,000 miles before even thinking about it requiring any work.

If not, something is not right with the parts or the installation, assuming you do not abuse the clutch.
An 85mph romp up through the gears does not qualify as abuse.

It sounds like the clutch surface is again contaminated with something. Could be brake fluid again. Could be engine oil from the rear seal, or transmission oil from the input shaft seal.

I'd pull the starter and see if I could tell from the starter opening. But I'd also be pretty sure that taking off the transmission would be coming up soon.
