I just finished the 24k service on my 04 RT and the bike runs great other than a fast idle. The tach is around 1,100 rpms until the motor is warmed up (about 4 bars on the oil temp) I adjusted the idle speed at the throttle but was not able to correct this.

The tach needle holds steady at 1,500 rpms

The idle is adjusted with the big brass screws on the throttle bodies. The throttle cable should have a little slack in it.

use these to bring the idle back down, keeping them in synch, shouldn't take too much. i noticed the idle on my bike getting a bit lower last year, a slight bit of turning and re-synch brought them back up to 1150 at idle with the fast idle lever off. don't worry if it seems a bit low when you just start the bike. mine idles at 800 or so when cold (lever not activated) 2 or 3 miles and its right up where it should be.

Thanks for the info. I'll peel the plastic off and give it a shot.

Sometimes leaving the rubber nipples off the throttle body spigots will raise the idle. You don't want to know how I know this...... :laugh

I ride my RT with the plastic off to warm it up after service just to be sure.
