I am going to change coolant/flush this weekend. I have the BMW coolant, but has anyone used a flushing chemical? also should I change my thermostat? It looks like they are pricey!

I change thermostats after 8-10 years in service, but I can't ever tell a difference.
The more important things on an old K75 are good hoses, a fresh radiator cap, and a working cooling fan. The caps really get gunky after awhile.

I've never seen any of the other cooling hoses fail..
