Holly S**t......what an improvement, but I don't believe the 6 inch photos were taken from the satellite

I was trying to check out the rally site with google earth, yesterday. It doesn't seem to have very good zoom in that area. :(

That is amazing. The maps must be of various dates. I looked for my former employer in Cambridge and the building is just begining constructed, placing it back in 2004.

below is a comparison image of how the new and old maps of cambridge look. The lower left (brighter) area shows the new hi-res pictures. the darker are is the old stuff. dang. i used to think the old stuff was good!

The resolution on the pools in Las Vegas is sadly lacking.

You don't want to see the average pool-side lounger in Vegas - old, fat, wrinkled - yuck!

Show me the high-res shots of Daytona Beach, or Ft. Lauderdale, or Bourbon Street last night :)

I use Google Earth and in general it is okay, but I am disappointed in the the resolution in many areas (obviously not Cambridge or Vegas). I have had better luck with Live Local in my area (they have some neat color photos which can be viewed from north, south, east or west), but I suppose it all boils down to which service has beter photos of a given area. I understand Live Local has 3-D photos, but I have not joined or downloaded to view them. Anyone seen the 3-D stuff?

Holly,

Your picture was a little out of focus so I passed it to one of our guys working in the recon lab. They have the magic programs and the stuff we don't usually get to see.

Nice dress!

Here's one to ponder. When I searched for my parents Florida home on Google Earth,it was off by 3 houses. No big deal right? My new Garmin 2720 is off by the same 3 houses. Spooky huh?

Jeez, I hope I wasn't sunbathing naked out in the back yard that day! (for your sakes):laugh

If Google Earth represents some fraction of the governments satelite imaging capability, I'll never feel comfortable on the toilet under the skylight again:D

The view of Vegas buildings is spectacular. You can easily see people walking.

The view of my house is much less sharp. Can't see the motorcycles:

i'm sure what google earth is giving us is a mere fraction of nasa and the military's satellite capability

Twenty years ago I recall reading something to the effect that spy-satellites could not read newspaper headlines, but could tell a hamburger from a hot dog at a picnic. If that was twenty years ago...

I started expounding about the capabilities of current military ordnance...I work on the baddest of the bad...but then I remembered that my every keystroke was being monitored and recorded...DELETE, DELETE, DELETE...I wonder if I can still visit the forum from federal prison:wave

That boils down to how accurate the info is that is provided to Google Earth/Mapsource. The location of one of the local gas stations is only off by 1 km. Mapsource puts this particular gas station in the middle of a set of railway tracks. Can you imagine what happens when the train hits the pumps? :laugh

Wow, last time I looked my town wasn't covered on Google maps. Now not only can you see my house, but you can see my bike. This is tooooo neat!

I don't mean to hijack the Google Earth thread but did you notice the newer features on Google Maps? If you use the routing feature, you're not stuck with the boring route it comes up with. You can click on the route and drag it onto some more interesting roads. You can also right click on the map and choose "directions from (to) here", and other stuff.

So, if you're at work looking outside at a beautiful afternoon you go to Google and calculate that route that will take you 100 miles out of the way on your way home, clock out, and ride!

My house looks like that as well. In fact since my local area looks at it does Google Earth is a big disappointment and I live in the NYC metro area. I don't get it

I dunno if youse have already seen this...but if you use google maps and get DIRECTIONS, you can change your route by simply picking up the connecting line on the map with yer cursor and moving it. If you get directions to say Ann Arbor from Munith MI, and then decide you want to go through Grayling to get there, just pick it up & move it and it'll give you directions therefore. Lovely!!

When HAULOVER BEACH FL becomes 1" resolution I'll be happy in my own world and very, deeply sad, as Voni referred to.

Mapping software in our car shows our neighbor's driveway as 146th street. There is NO 146th st, never was!

Was tracing a route up 355 north from Roosevelt Road and as I was scrolling along I had to stop and . . . . *L* . . . an MD-80 on approach to O'Hare!

If you're Dick Cheney, you get Google to blur the image of your official residence on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory.

That's a government employee using our tax dollars to prevent us from seeing the property we all collectively own.
