42,000 miles on my Oilhead, and boy do the timing chains make NOISE! Always have......

Though I have been assured by a couple tech's that I have nothing to worry about, "some of them do it, some don't make noise atall..... don't worry 'bout it."

What does ANYBODY ELSE have to offer in regard to an opinion about my 'really' noisy engine. Valves are adjusted, rocker arm end-play addressed, just my "timing chain(s)" making racket!

There are three timing chains in that engine....one short one and two fairly long ones. They make noise.

If you are using a multi-vis synthetic oil with a fairly wide weight range, say Castrol Syntec 5-50 or even the BMW synth, I would think that would make a bit more noise than going back to a 15w50 Mobil 1 or 20w50 Castrol.

You also really need to own an airhead or dry-clutch Ducati to realize how quiet the Oilhead engine is. :)
