Is there anything better than a nice ride on a Sunday morning for a big ol' bearclaw and a cuppa joe?

Where do you go?

Not a chain, just two locally owned locations. Literally know all the employees by name. Also a motorcycle friendly place, when space gets tight as it is a small space, they will put my gear in the back.

My personal favorite... Health Nut Wrap and a Chai. mmmmmmmm

Freaking low carb diet, haven't had one in about a 40 days. At least that is easier to deal with than no riding due to snow.:eek

Oh and everything is available to go, but if you stay there real plates and mugs. I think I can swim in the large mugs.

In order to have a safe and successful Sunday jaunt throught the crisp fall air, one must partake of the appropriate caloric content prior to zooming off to the twisties.

KRISPY KREME and a double shot espresso!

Actually, since I've been on the Atkins thing for nearly a year, I'm stuck gagging down an Advantage bar and a bottle of water.

I don't drink coffee but I enjoy a nice morning ride and a Diet Coke, one of my favorite destinations is the Vanilla Bean Cafe in Pomfret, CT. Some great roads to get there and good food.

I ride out there about once a month during the riding season.

I like the Bovine Bakery in Pt. Reyes, CA.

No espresso, no lattes, just good coffee and a good variety of teas. The bear claws are pretty terrific, as are their other pastries.

Good God, someone must be reading my mind!

One of my favorite spots to stop for coffee is the Fairfax Coffee Roaster on Bolinas and Broadway in Fairfax, CA. Watch for the sleeping dogs out front. This is combined with one of my favorite rides, the Fairfax-Bolinas road to Stinson Beach. Then, you can head north to Kbasa's favorite spot (see his post and picture). Life couldn't be better after cruising Marin County revved up on caffeine.

While in Stinson, go to the Stinson Market outdoor coffee stand for more coffee.

Another cool area is the San Gregorio Market in San Gregorio, CA. There, you can choose from a large variety of bean, then pour your own brew through a #4 Krups. Take a break there and try on the funny hats...trust me, its fun.

Third, try Bean Street Coffee on B Street in San Mateo (very clever!). Typically, you'll see local law enforcment giving their Harley's a rest while sipping coffee out front in the morning. The people who run the place are almost too nice, but that is what makes this place a nice change from the usual chain coffee stores.

Of course, all of the above have pretty decent pastries...

There you go!

I don't like coffee. blech.

For my sugar fix, if I'm within a couple hours, Schatz Bakery in Bishop, CA is hard to beat. If I'm looking closer to home.....hmm....drooool....Krispy Kreme... Doughnuts are the food of Gods.

Nobody here in TexSux rides for coffee and doughnuts. Besides all the good places here for such are in densely urban areas so what's the point.

But many here do ride for barbecue, especially around the Hill Country. Here's the CW for picking a place: If the sign says BARBECUE, keep going, move on. If the sign says BAR-B-Q, don't stop unless there are a lot of cars parked outside. If the sign says BBQ, go right in and eat to your heart's content!

Hey, Kbasa, this thread reminds me that I have a couple photos for you. This first one I'm sure you recognize:

I don't know how you two managed to raid a KK from Furnace Creek, but...

And then, I took this one a year and a half ago meaning to send it to you. I don't suppose you'll know just where this one is...

But I'm sure you'll be happy to know that if you visit Barcelona, Spain, you'll be able to get your morning started right.

Here in central North Carolina, they come from miles around to go to Michael's in Chapel Hill. At nine, hundreds of bikes from all walks of life begin to gather for free coffee. Quite a few have a good breakfast before going out around the lakes for the morning. By noon, not two wheels left. Noticed a trend lately, the colder it gets, the more BMW'ish the parking lot gets. :)

Eric,

Bob's Java Hut must be in the same vicinity of Muddy Water's Coffee Shop, too, right? When I lived in MPLS, I would usually stop at Muddy's before my rides down the river to Lake City and the Red Wing area.

I miss the coffee in Minneapolis, but I don't miss the weather...

This place in Knoxville, Tennesee is pretty cool too, but I can't speak for the baked goods.

I believe it's the one and only. Knoxville is only about 50 miles from Deal's Gap.l

I like Monorail Espresso. 520 Pike Street in Seattle.

Used to work for a company that had an office in the same
building.

I almost forgot. Down in Monterey, sort of off the beaten
path, is The Wild Plum Cafe and Bakery. On Munras Ave
more towards town.

Unlike the Bovine, they offer espresso drinks but like the
Bovine, the coffee is great. If you get there near opening,
you can enjoy the pastries fresh out of the oven.

Nice people behind the counter too.

hey dave, i don't think your riding gear is quite "loud" enough:laugh

i'm not a fan of sweets, coffee is all in what you pay for it, just like beer, cheap coffee generally stinks.

WORMAN's Kosher Deli at the corner of Broad & Adams Sts downtown Jacksonville, FL. Some of the best Apple Turnovers I've tasted anywhere. Definately not for a weight watcher/someone on a diet.;)

I'm always on the look out for good coffee.

Barefoot Coffee Roasters
5237 Stevens Creek Blvd,
Santa Clara, CA 95051

These guys are good at what they do. Plus they have some decent pastries too.
Try the Cocophaney (sp?). Coffee, chocolate and a bit of pepper to numb your throat.
Mmmmm. Delicious.

They opened a Krispy Kreme locally to a huge amount of fanfare. I don't know if it lasted a couple of years after the initial novelty had worn off. Couldn't compete with Tim Horton's.:ca

Yeah, when they opened the Krispy Kreme in Mississauga (I think) there were line ups around the block. Before you knew it, they were popping up all over. We even had one in our local grocery store - they made them right there, and you could watch the process through the big windows. Then they sort of went away. You could find boxes of ready-made ones here and there.

I can honestly say they didn't do anything for me. WAY too sweet, and no substance - they seem to completely deflate when you take a bite. Now a good bearclaw - THAT's worth a ride!

Can't honestly think of anywhere around here that offers up old fashioned home-style baking and/or a place to sit and savour it...

Jacquelyn’s Danish Bake Shoppe & Kaffe, Elk Horn Iowa

And the town has a windmill!!!!!!! :clap

http://www.elkhorniowa.com/img/windmill4x2.gif

about 7 miles north of I80 exit 54 on Iowa 173. Nice little Danish settlement that has some tourist things and Jacquelyn’s has flakey pastries to die for.

This exploring a new area could become fattening. :rofl

Oh come on guys and gals, all these good places and you've not put them on www.unchainedworld.com, surely they can't all be part of multiple groups?

I did go to the first Krispy Kreme and the first ever Starbucks, plus #1 BK, but that was part of work rather than pleasure.

A+++ for all coffee and tea, and a straight A for munchies. Nothing else comes close to rival...

In Connecticut I go to the "Toymakers Cafe" in Falls Village. Right off route 7. Good coffee and food. Open on Thursday thru Sunday for breakfast and lunch only. The owner works on British bikes the rest of the time. Always a crowd of neat and different bikes on the weekends. He has a barn full old bikes and frames in various stages of repair and some just plain dead bikes.

A fellow GS rider, Tom from Bellingham WA will be riding to Alaska in a week or so, then later this year heading south to TDF. His obsession is finding fine pies.

He's just started his first ever blog on unchainedworld and would welcome any pie related info, or locations. Somehow I hope I've come to the right bunch of riders to assist him in his pastry encrusted quest.
