Hi All,

I'm mapping out a BBG and have a question: What's the fastest way to get from Sylmar (the intersection of I-5 / 405 / 210) to Lancaster/Rosamond? S&T routes me all the way on 14 from Santa Clarita, but it looks like I can stay on I-5 and get off at 138 east to 14. I'm looking for the road with the least amount of cross traffic and the most divided highway.

Thanks,
Jerry

Ah the canyons of Southern California. The freeways are the fastest way, but the many canyons provide lots more fun.

Go east a couple of miles on the 210 to Osborne St. That turns into Little Tujunga Canyon. Go over the ridge and you are now on Sand Canyon that links up to Hwy 14. Take that a few miles east and then you can link up with Soledad Canyon that runs into the town of Acton. From there you can roll up Hwy 14 through the desert suburbs to Rosamond. There are other canyon roads Bouquet canyon, and San Fransisquito canyon that look interesting, but the ones I mentioned it the only ones I have ridden.

I wish this were a "lots more fun" ride but it's really a "fastest way" ride. Is 14 really freeway all the way through Palmdale and Lancaster? Like, it's not some street with a highway number but a lot of traffic lights?

Jerry.. Highway 14 is all freeway from the I-5, 405, 210 intersection to Palmdale and Lancaster and on to Mojave and would be the fastest route..

Yup. Its all freeway, from I-5 to Mojave. And be prepared to either do 80mph+ or risk being run down by folks trying to get home/get to work. I used to live in Cal City and would have to drive to Burbank Airport to work. The worst part is between I-5 and Palmdale Blvd. After that, it opens up and is a bit more pleasant to be on.

Just keep an eye out for the Chipies after after you get through Lancaster. The boys from Mojave have no sense of humor. The one that did retired last year.

Its been a while since I've been on Sierra Highway, but I preferred it to the freeway.
