Does anyone know approx what the oil capacity is for the driveshaft? I"m reading the Haynes manual, and I'm a bit confused about where exactly to measure the level by sticking a measuring stick in the filler.
I drained the shaft, and not much oil came out at all, <1/2 quart, so I don't want to overfill.
Searched the forum and didn't come up with anything.

Driveshaft: 5.12 oz. (.32 pints).
Final Drive: 8.45 oz. (.5 pint).

I've read somewhere that you should fill it until the bottom threads of the fill plug have a bit of oil on 'em. That's what I did last time I changed the oil. It's also a good way of measuring when topping up.

I am pretty sure that's the method they suggest in the Clymer.

When I first got my /7, I tried the screwdriver into the hole measurement approach and never could get that figured out. Now I just put in 150cc, which is what the manual calls for. Actually, as long as there's some amount of oil, say at least 50cc, you should be good. I'd shoot for 100 to 150. Too much may not be good as there may be a tendency to force the excess either forward or aft, if pressure builds up.

150cc in the driveshaft, too little is better than too much.

Thanks all for the quick info, I just measured about 5-6 ounces and that didn't even fill to the threads. Judging from what drained out, I think I'm alright. I was worried about too much fluid = bad pressure, excellent tip.
Now on to the engine oil change, fork oil change, brake fluid change, spark plugs, valve adjustment, timing check...:)

I have a 1975 R/90/6 and have been going thru all the oil changes and filters this winter. What has made the job easy is the two books my wife got me for Christmas. She got me the Workshop Manual that covers the R 60/6, R75/6, R 90/6 and the R90 s. If you need info from ether, let me know. She also got me the Owners Manual, she is the best.

Ok, Ok, I won't rub it in anymore for all you Northerners. I am a northerner too and will be moving back to NJ/NYC in a few months:banghead Thanks for the info offer. I'm good for now...just need to memorize the capacities/clearance tolerances like I have for the Honda...

150cc in the shaft housing - barely above the top of the splined coupling - not to the threads.
Up to the lowest thread in the fill hole in the final drive.
