Playboy Magazine has named Edmonton lit professor Ted Bishop's book, Riding with Rilke, on its best read list. According to the Calgary Herald, Rilke is quite pleased with the designation and brought home a number of copies of the issue in which the announcement was made, which scandalized his 28 year old daughter. But after reading the issue, she concluded it was a pretty good magazine.
Maybe there's something to that old cliche, after all.
I quite enjoyed the book, especially its glimpse into the world of James Joyce scholars.

Bud:
Good comment.
The article says that Bishop "appreciates getting out of the academic silo and into Playboy means circulating to the general public..." and it "adds to the reputation of U of A's English Department, feeds back into learning and gives credibility to the University's creative non - fiction courses."
In reviewing the article, which was carried in a number of major Canadian papers, I noticed that it was written by Tim Yip, an Edmonton Ducati and BMW owner who also writes occasionally for the local BMW club.
The article comes up easily on a Google search: use Ted Bishop Calgary Herald. Sorry, but I don't know how to do linkies.
