Thanks to a guy wasting time in Marin (Dave) for turning me on to this site. I've Been a member of the IBMWR List and Various RT and GS lists for some time.

This is my question for the Collective intelligencia encircling the campfire tonight (today, depending on where you might be)

Can you Identify the mystery part shown in the attached photo??

So far, those who have said they could, could not.

Please start the clock..................Tic Toc, Tic Toc.

It looks like a rainbow speckled berber carpet of some sort.... I could maybe give you thread count but there's some little black thing in the way....

What that is I have no idea.

It's an electrical connection/switch part. Presumably from a handle bar control.

Hey! How about using a hard return on those long sentences?

to All Contestants, Times running out!! No right guesses yet.

This is part of an R1100RT I think. and it is a rubber bushing / mount. several similar ones are used to attach mounting brackets to the lower fairnig brackets and the nose section that holds the headlight and windshield assembly.

However, they are round grommets with the yellow cad plated bolster identical to the one used hear that prevents the grommet from being crushed too much.

This one has a purpose - specific shape ---but so far, no one knows where it goes.

This is like a RORSCHACH test, right?
I see a little smiling dog's head, facing right, with his mouth open
and detailed whiskers, nose, and squarish ears.

Actually, it's the width of his image that makes the post seem to run to chicago.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that the handlebar pullback depicted in your 11RS image exceeds specification. What did you do?

btw, I just fixed it for him. Hope you don't mind, bcolins. :1drink

Some years back I "won" a drawing at some sportbike thing in Sacramento.

It was a gizmo that someone marketed to tie down bikes with fairings. I pulls from oppsite hand-grips to keep the front end stable. At the same time, it's supposed to keep the tie-downs away from your paint.

That, it did do. Until it broke my riser. After it broke the riser, butt before I noticed the break, it screwed up my paint.

Boned again!

Brian,

I have no idea what your part is.

Perhaps you could take some more pictures from different angles, say top and side views.

If you have an idea of where the part came from on the bike someone with the parts CD could take a stab at this also.

Good luck.

Rob, sorry, My camera just Sh** the bed. No more pics.

To all, the bike with the broken handle bar has nothing to do with my question about the mystery part, don't know why it go posted.

Per my second post here, I believe this part may have something to do with attaching body panels on an R1100RT, but not sure, There are two, they are mirror images of each other I think.

Look here:

http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22

The "How Do I..." addresses a lot of these things.

You might also want to check out the second post on that thread, which talks about how to use a picture on another website as your image. It's nice for the MOA, since they don't have to host your image and the internet traffic comes from someone else's site.

Best,
