Here's a good story.
For Christmas I bought my wife the MSF course. How romantic. She finishes the class on Sunday and is enjoying the training. She has learned lots about motorcycles and feels much better now that I got a new bike. She was worried about my safety on the old K bike riding on hwy 17 everyday. She said the MSF class convinced her that a new 'safer' bike was good thing. She wants a bike now too. I'm thinking of getting her a used Buell Blast to start with for the first year and then move her up to a F650GS. Smartest thing I ever did was send my wife to the MSF class. :thumb

How gorgeous is that bike? No wonder you're grinning...looks great!

And I do think that an MSF class is a romantic gift...I get stuff for my bike from my s/o from time to time and always think it's downright thoughtful and VERY sweet.:heart

Way to go!:clap

Here it begins...

The saga of an innocent lad spawned in the rapids at the mouth of Lake Superior
who travelled by conestoga coach, moccassin and K75
to the foothills of Black Mountain...

Enjoy!

What a great looking bike. Looks kinda different than those K's.

Won't ever be that clean again, if you treat it right.

Congrats.

Dunno where this dark side thing came from. I've been riding a beemer for 31 years. So far most were on airheads and the last 13 on a K (brick).

I guess I should be figuring I know all about the Dark Side.

She wants to get her bike in the spring.
What's wrong with a K75?

Burnszilla
01-13-2007, 12:14 AM
It's a little too tall for her and not a good starter bike. She needs to build her confidence up on a smaller bike.

I've (had) just been in the mode of talking with one of the poor girls who know me, before and during the last post, so the naggy kinda :stick was inferred.
Nice ride. Congrats. But I do think it's tubular, too. Like... way. :stick I guess I never noticed from the design because all I've ever seen were dirty ones.:ha
Maybe that's the theory from the mad German bike designer scientists . "... we create a design where there are no more K-like square nooks and crannys to catch the dirt...."

Thanks for the pics. That's one nice bike. You picked the right color, BTW.

Which bags did/will you get?

You done good, boy! When I sent my (now ex-) wife to the Beginning Rider's Class 8 years ago she came back deciding riding wasn't for her and further that a divorce was in order!! :doh

Would seem as though that took a nasty turn, it really didn't. At the time I only had one bike - now I have five. Living well is the best revenge. Clearly you chose the right wife! Congratulations!

Great looking bike and excellent photos. What make camera did you use?

What are you going to do for bags?

What type of tires did it come with?

Happy trails!

Burnszilla,
CONGRATS on the new ride!! Having spent so much time on a "brick" it may take a few nice rides up Highways 9 & 35 to get the handling / tires / brakes sorted out. Nothing more fun that feeling out a new ride.

I was fortunate to join the ranks of BMW owners in June and realize a long-time dream to buy a BMW, not one of those noise-makers that everyone (including my two brothers-in-law) seems to want. YUK.

Hope to see you out and about. Mine is a 2000 R1100RT in Opal Blue. I've got relective arrows on the back of my black Arai helmet.

It haunts me alright. I'm afraid to open the thick folder of BMW repair receipts the potential buyer wants to see.

Not to be a cynic (always the prelude to saying something cynical), but the Buell Blasts are rotten bikes for beginners (or for anyone). The couple advantages they DO have are low-saddle height and a clutch that won't die. I don't think it's any secret why so many are used at MSF schools: HD MUST sell'em for pennies on the dollar to the schools. Clutch release and throttle roll-on from a stop are snatchy, brakes are iffy, and steering response is questionable. I suggest a bike like a Yamaha XT225: MUCH lighter, easier to balance and pick up, zippier for newbies. Or even an old & used F650ST without sidecases: cheaper than a Blast, better resale when your wife upgrades, and a more balanced, bette-engineered bike. :clap

Not to hijack this thread, but

What made you choose the Schuberth Flip Up over other makes?

Regarding the pic you first posted, are those your gloves on the rear rack or is it the vented top case for your pet gerbil?:)

I chose the Schuberth because the was supposedly the quietest helmet made, the sun visor and the quality.

It's a hamster not a gerbil!

Sweeeet looking bike! Gee... I'd almost consider one and I'm not a GS type of rider. It looks cleaner than those on the showroom floor I've seen!!! How the heck did you manage that?!??

Nice bike Burnz!! I love that it's black!! I read your thread in the clubhouse and I glad to see everything worked out for you.

I was thinking of trading my KRS for a GS cuz it looks more comfy...enjoy!

"I'm thinking of getting her a used Buell Blast to start with for the first year and then move her up to a F650GS. Smartest thing I ever did was send my wife to the MSF class. "

don't follow up one smart move (MSF class) with one stupid move (Buell Blast). we used those as trainers in CT- not a very good trainer bike, and not an especially good starter bike. on/off switch for a clutch, vibrates like crazy, reliability is questionable. does handle reasonably well, and feels fun due to the torque of the motor, but i wouldn't recommend it.
i think she'd do better either just going straight to the F650, or if she really wants/needs to start on someting smaller, consider a Ninja 250 or a Kawi EX500.

nice GS- welcome to the twin thing!

My measurements showed that my Arai Quantum/f is quieter then the Scheuberth I sold to Einnar. Yup, I used a calibrated system... remember what I do for a living. I do not have the exact figures with me, but it was 3dB or so A weighted SPL.
