What is the best thing to use on RT hard bags to protecet them from the sun? I see a lot of them with a milky looking finish and I assume it is UV damage.

I have a 05 RT and the bike and bags look like new. The bike and bags have a paint finish so I polish and wax them. That is all all have do to keep them looking good.

Mother's Plastic Polish has a UV protector built in and should do a fine job. If the plastic is already faded, use Mother's Back-To-Black, WONDERFUL stuff! I've used it for years... on the odd occasion I actually clean my bike. ;)

Even though I usually mount the bags only when taking an overnight trip, I find the same Zymol carnauba wax which protects my BMW cage works just fine on the R1200RT painted surfaces.

I have the 03 1150 and am pretty sure the bags are not painted. Thanks for the Mother's polish tip.

on my 1985 k 100 rs my bags are not painted and they get simple amour all every so often so does the rest of all the plastic on the bike. 20 years old looks like new.

After being frustrated by that black, unforgiving, scuff prone finish on the bags of my 2004 RT I had the local body shop match the red Piedmont color and painted them. :) :)

When I had my '02RT,I always finished a good washing n drying with either Plexus or Honda Spray Wax. Always satisfied with the results. Everything from dash to bags and handlebar switchgear to wheels were protected.
Kept things looking good and shiny. No real residue or film. Buffed up nice with a hand rag.
Then I happened upon a spray cleaner/wax from Hardley Davidson. It was called "ChromeCleaner/Detail Spray"...'bout $6.00 or so an areosol can, just like Plex an Honda.
The "Hardley D stuff" seemed to work better,at least I felt it did, and I believe the price was cheaper!
So,I'd reccomend the HD ChromeCleaner/Detail.
