I have seen that the majority of RT's for sale on Ebay are from the Orlando and Daytona shops. Unfortunately I am on the wrong side of the country from them.

Has anyone had notably good or bad experiances in dealing with them?

Is there an independent shop or wrench that can look at a bike for a distant buyer in the Daytona or Orlando area?

I'd have a real hard time spending the thousands of $ for something site unseen and untest ridden.

Anyonme have any advice about this? HHHAAAALLLLPPPP! :wave

I saw some RT-Ps on ebay that were in FLA. I contacted a dealership here in New England to see if they had a similar item and would match price. They did...and did. I got to test ride it first (but didn't ride far enough to reveal a major problem). I bought the bike. I would not buy another RT that I could not test ride first, unless the price was safely low enough to cover any hidden issues, or it had a warrantee. I keep toying with flying out to CA and riding one home from that dealer out there that has lots of PD bikes. Maybe you could get a member in FLA to look at one for you..and hope they had a good eye/ear. H.

I bought my R1150RS from BMW-Daytona, sight-unseen (except photos) - and it was an excellent experience. I did have some assurance on my bike since I knew who owned it before me (a noted BMW wrench, and former owner of BMW of Daytona - Joe Katz).

Experience was as painless as could be. I figured out a price I could live with *delivered to my door* (all fees, paperwork, shipping cost, etc.), they accepted it, overnighted me the paperwork, I overnighted it back with a certified check and the bike arrived about a week later.

Friendly and easy to deal with. I was happy. I'm still happy. Doesn't get better than that.

Say HI to them for me if you call... I dealt with Randy, easy guy to do business with, and quite professional on making sure everything was taken care of and taken care of quickly.

I got my RT 1200 at Chicago BMW. They gave me a good price and I think the service is great. I know they have a few RT for sale. You have 3 years and unlimited miles for the warranty.

We're going to start heading to the East for grand kids in TX. and LA. but had no plans to go further to the SE. Unfortunately until the Dr's. release us from all the poking and prodding we're stuck here in Tucson. :banghead Right now it looks like Feb. befre we can get on the road unless we need additional tests. Getting old sucks, but it does beat the alternative....... :violin

and the dealer in Orlando was the only dealer I used in the home area. Then after the sudden and very sad death of the owner,Larry Cann,in a parking lot mishap at the shop while on a new at the time 1200,Daytona bought the shop.Orlando now has more new bikes than I can ever remember on the floor.
I have 2 buying experiences to relate.I bought a used K75 from Daytona that was listed on e-bay.I made an offer and they accepted.Smooth transaction. That was 2 years back. Then about 15 or so months ago, they had a used 1200GS listed on e-bay.Obviously it was for sale in the shop too.I made an offer which they accepted and while running the fugures, they said there is a "prep" fee and another dealer fee that amounted to nearly $800 for the 2 fees. For a used bike!See ya.
So I called the dealer in Orlando about the same bike and he quoted a price that was $1000 less than the e-bay price, all told.HUH?
While I do realize there are fees involved on e-bay,those fees are not $800 for a sale of that amount.I bought from MAX BMW in NH and had the bike shipped to Orlando and still came out ahead, plus got great customer service and prices on the BMW cases I bought.
I never went back to the dealers in Orlando or Daytona before I left.I use a mom & pop BMW dealer here in Ft.Lauderdale, which doesn't have nearly the selection, but do carry most models and can order what I want.
My advice is to read the auction carefully and you will see "additional fees" listed.
Daytona's "biggest is best" just doesn't work for me.Too impersonal.Too rushed.
Just plain too...
Hope this helps.

Sine I'm a second time "newbie" I've sat back on this one. I did send Mike an email with some info. I just bought a '99 R1100 RT from the Daytona dealer off ebay. In the listing there was no information except the mileage (and that the bike had a Salvage Title). I studied what I could see and placed a bid (in the last seconds) and got the bike. I called them the next morning and spoke to Billy and asked how much the "dealer fee" was he said "$495.00" and I replied.... "I don't think I'm going to pay a Dealer Fee". He replied, "Would you take the bike if there's no Dealer Fee" and I replied, Yep. So I gave him a Visa number for the $1,000.00 deposit. We did have a Sales Tax discussion and I asked if we were going to have other problems when I came to get the bike. I asked him could he tell me anything about the bike and he replied "It's Just Like The Pictures". No joke? I don't know if they are aware of it or not but even disclosing No Information can still get you Sued. I figured if I found any major problem with the bike (before I paid them) I'd walk. In SC you have 10 days to back out of a contract and I knew I'd have Visa on my side if I found something I didn't like. Naturally since the bike had been totalled I found (and expected) some minor problems but I think I got a decent deal. I knew they wanted to sell the bike I got and maybe that was why they waved the Dealer Fee. During the transaction I spoke to the owner(?) and he said they'd taken two bikes from a guy on trade. Both had Salvage Titles, he said the guy said the '99 was a good motorcycle without any problems but the other one the ABS didn't work and it had some other problems. I felt like the person that gave the info seemed to be speaking honestly and didn't have to volunteer anything.

My problem with their ebay listings is, they do not tell how much the dealer fee is. This seems to be a little dishonest in my opinion and more information would be better.

I know in Florida it can be difficult to register an out of state bike with a salvage title,no matter how small the damage was. That's the reason I have avoided some what I considered sweet deals.Hopefully registering your RT in SC with that title won't be daunting.

Not any major problems in SC with Salvage titles. (I buy and repair 5 or 6 wrecked cars a year.) As a general rule most banks won't loan money on salvage titles. Insurance is not a problem and the property tax is lower. I've also done boats. The good thing about Salvage boats, they are Not marked Salvage in any way.
