Hi Folks, I recently purchased an 05 R1200RT with 3500 miles on it. I also just became a member of the BMW MOA. This is my first BMW. I plan to purchase the CD repair manual; however, I was trying to remove the engine fairing, to make it easier to polish my chrome exhaust pipes. I removed all the screws, but there is one last screw up behind the cylinder head. How in the world do you get on this screw to remove it? Is there other disassembly that has to be done before this fairing can be removed? Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the BMW world. I'm relatively new here, too, just bought my first B this past month. Yes, there is another "disassembly that has to be done before this fairing can be removed," but I don't know what it is. Hope you figure it out soon, as I know how infuriating something like that can be. See you in WI!!

Congrats on your purchase of a great bike and welcome to the MOA.
1) remove the seats
2) remove the tank rails (4screws)
3) remove the left hand trim panel (4screws, front fairing piece)
4) disconnect accessory plug
5) then you should be able to remove the trim panel.
Sorry I can't post pictures from the CD it jst does'nt want to work that way.

You are setting yourself up for frustration. The pipes are stainless, not chrome, and after they turn ugly from the heat no amount of hand polishing is going to make them look much better. That is my experience, anyway.

OK, thanks for the info, I'll take a look at it. BTW, stainless pipes are standard on the RT, chrome pipes are optional.
