While I know the after market seat topic has been well covered, I'm contemplating ordering a Rick Mayer seat after having ridden on a Sargent seat for about 8k miles. The Sargent is certainly much, much better than stock ('06 RT low seat), but as I get older, I'm looking for as much comfort as possible on longer trips.
So - can anyone compare the Mayer to the Sargent on a 1200RT, ST or GS from personal experience with both seats on the same bike?
Thanks,
Tom

I used to have a Sargent years ago on an R100RT. I hope they are better now!

I CAN recommend Rick Mayer's saddles.

Tom,
I have no info for you as I am still using the stock seat, but I do have a question for you. I am riding an 04 RT and thinking about trading for an 07RT with the low seat. I was told (dealer) that it is very comfy. Are they lying to me. Will I need to purchase an after market seat soon after the trade? Thanks for any info

I have never tried Rick Mayer products, but I have Corbin seats on my 05 RT and GS. I am completely satisfied with both seats and can easily handle 500+ mile days. Interestingly, my wife prefers the stock seats to the Corbins so I kept the stock seats for the passenger. Go figure...

I test rode an '04 and found the stock seat less comfortable than the '05, mainly because I was being pushed into the tank on the '04 - of course they were brief test rides and both with standard seat heights. But, being aware that rear ends differ significantly, I still think your dealer is mistaken as the 1200 Low & standard seats are the same shape, unlike the BMW "comfort" seat that was previously available
I ordered the low seat as my inseam is 30" and I felt that the stock seat height of 32"+ was a bit much for me, not for any perceived comfort increase. I quickly added the peg lowering kit ($145 + labor) to relieve leg cramps and with the subsequent mounting of bar-backs, the ergonomics are now pretty good for me. But the stock seat (low version) begins to hurt after only 50 miles or so and is really painful after 100 miles. The Sargent seat (also low version) extends the comfort window to about 300 miles, but I'm looking for even more, if possible.
So, I'd advise getting the '07 with a low seat (shouldn't be any extra $$) if the 30" seat height fits you - but it won't be any more comfortable. I believe that if you then purchase a "ready-made" after market seat from Sargent, Corbin, etc., you'll have a choice of stock or low heights. And if you order a custom seat (Mayer, Russell, etc.), they'll use your pan, so that (and whether to spring for heat) may be a consideration as well.
Of course, since you apparently don't have a problem with your 1150 seat as I did, the 1200 (low or stock) seat may work well for you!
