I am Converting A 77 R 60/7 to a 81 R 100 engine and am wondering what I must do to get the Electronic Ign. hooked up to run. I have all the parts including the Plug in Ign. Amp. The question is since the old 77 harness did not have electronic Ign.where do I plug in the wire connectors coming from the newer style Electronic Amp.in order to get the coils to fire? :dunno
Any Help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

In Snowbum's ignition article there is a wiring diagram and pictures of the plug and ignition module.

Thanks for the web site. The Diagrams are a great help. I still would like to hear from someone who has done it.
Thanks Again :usa :wave

While I haven't done this conversion myself, there are a few things you can do to make it easier. First get the relevent wiring harness section from a wrecked bike. Not only will you have the proper sealed connectors, you will also have most of the wiring and what little you need to connect can simply be spliced in.
Do you have ALL the components you need? You will also need the matching ignition coil (or after-market equivalents) and, most importantly, the heat sink for the control unit. Make sure the back of the control unit is clean where it mounts to the (also clean) heat sink. Use dialectric grease between the two to aid in heat transfer. If you don't use the grease, the control unti will fail in short order.
There are just three wires to hook up. One to the ignition feed, one to the coil and one to ground. Follow the diagrams referenced in other posts. It is all pretty straight forward as these things go.

the "veg" brought this up...omega ignition.............
will the "omega" ignition work with the "omega" alternator
I think they might be two different "omega" companies or names
the dyna system looks more "stock"
and an omega alternator is on my christmas list
but so far, santa aint listening
guess Ive been naughty :violin wahhh

Thanks for reminding me about the Heat Sink. I think I got it all about figured out. I will get to it next week and let you all know the results.
MERRY CHRISTMAS :wave

I have ordered the ignition and am going to order the alternator soon. I have been advised that they will work together...I will report back in a few weeks.

My Dyna 3 was added sometime in the Jurassic period, shortly after pterosaurs took to wing. It has worked perfectly ever since....with the exception of human error when the owner insisted something was wrong with the Dyna and it was instead a coil shorting out once it warmed up....
