I have a 2003 K1200GT, am 5'10" tall, and the bike has barbacks (ordered through Pirate's Lair - Suburban Machinery). The bike currently has the stock windshield. I would like to install a taller and possibly wider windshield to break the airflow and reduce wind noise. I prefer to look over the windshield rather than through it.
My question is . . . would anyone have advice on how to determine which windshield height and manufacturer would be best? Cee Baileys offers heights at +1", +4", and +6" over stock. Parabellum offers 23" and 25" windshields. There are probably other manufacturers that I've not considered. Thanks.

I recently ordered a windshield from Clearshields. Because of the long back to rider slope of my stock windscreen, I was not certain what the correct height should be with the Clearshield with a different angle. Therefore, I ordered a 24", taller than what I thought I might need; installed it and rode with it for an hour and marked where I wanted to see over it. Then I headed to my local plastics company and they began to take increments off the windshield until it was at the height that I could comfortably see over it. They traced the top of it before cutting to finish with the same line and completed by buffing the cut. They charged $20 for the cuts and told me to return at no charge if I needed a touch more sliced off. The windshields could be ordered in 21, 24" and 26" heights. My new windhield is now customized to my vision and height at 21 3/4". I didn't want to order and pay for a winshield that was not going to be an improvement over what I had.
I have been told that masking tape both sides of the windshield, drawing a line for the cut and then using a jigsaw will work, but I figured, why not have people who work with and are familiar with plastic do the job? I didn't wish to hack a brand new windshield.

I have the same bike and am the same height, I'm looking for a lower windshield. I want more air, the more direct air, the less turbulence noise. I had a pointer to a real nice RS one, but learned the RS shields don't fit the GT and there is little market for making things for the "old" GT. :rolleyes

Cee Baileys have set-up some dealers with sample windshields for you to take a test ride behind. I am not sure which dealers but it may be listed on there web site.

I'm a long time fan of Aeroflow windscreens.

I have one on my 08 K1200GT and did on my previous 2 bikes (K100RT & R1150RT). They're pricey, but keep the turbulence and wind away. They make a couple of different sizes.

Get a Laminar Lip. Its a 1/3 the price of a new wind shield and works just as well. I was skeptical at first but man, it is really great! It sticks right on your stock shield and it doesn't come off even at 120 mph. It deflects the air around you a bit more and shoots it up another 6-8" higher than the stock screen. Now the air that hits my helmet only hits the top/forehead (it used to hit me on the chin) and the best part is its smooth quiet air. I almost dont even need ear plugs. Definitely worth the money.
