It was a beutiful day today, about 72 degrees. My buddy and I went for a ride, to lunch and back. While eating we kept smelling gas. Investigation proved that the right carb on my airhead was leaking on my right boot. I'm guessing it's the float bowl gasket. I'll check it out tomorrow.
Anyone know of a good way to get the gas off of the boot, other than a match? ;-))
Right now I'm just letting it air out. Maybe it will just evaporate?
Thanks

The odor will evaporate by itself, just keep them outside until you can stand them. I soaked a pair last summer and they finally quit smelling after about a week and half-two weeks. I had soaked them with warm soapy water immediately after the gas had soaked them. Febreeze will also help with residual odor if you have it, or even residual natural foot odor...lol

Now, as to the leaking carb...
I think the problem is more likely to be the float needle & seat, rather than the float bowl gasket. In the meantime MAKE SURE you close the petcocks when it is not running.

If it is the gasket, check http://www.realgaskets.com/files/motorcycle.htm for their nitrile bowl gaskets. I liked mine well enough to get a set for my GS, as well as silicone gaskets for my RT rebuild.
As to the boots, time, sun and water. I threw mine in the back yard.

Thanks for the advice guys. It cleaned up pretty good with just soap and water. When it dries I'll hit both boots with saddle soap and re-polish.
The carb is fixed. It was the gasket. I drain the float bowls when it sits a while and I guess I tweaked it a bit when I put it back together. I just used my last spare, so I may look into that replacement as suggested.
Thanks Again

Use a tiny bit of Hylomar or similar to stick it on the carb body. Renew about once a year. No problems.
