I read about Riding Solo To The Top Of The World on one of M1ka's 'Morning Reads' a month or so ago and bought the DVD. It is about filmmaker Gaurav Jani's solo motorcycle trip from Mumbai to the Changthang Plateau, which borders on China.

The filmmaker does this trip and all of the filming alone and he does a good job of drawing you into the journey. His trip was difficult by any standards and to document it so beautifully given the effects of the altitude on his motorcycle, the video equipment and his body is remarkable. The photography is really first class for any film crew and many of the shots are amazing considering that he was by himself.

Although his trip was on a Royal Enfield 350, it is not just a 'motorcycle movie.' It is very much about the people that he meets and spends time with and the beauty of the Changthang Plateau. The nomadic tribe of Changpas that he encounters and spends time with live at the highest altitudes that any person lives at in the world.

I highly recommend it. Here is a link to the 8 minute long trailer which is in itself a nice little movie:

Thanks for turning me on this M1ka!!

Me too. I ordered it for Christmas. So we'll see if it arives by Santa.
One thing that struck me in the trailer was the smiles on the faces of the people. I guessed the lack of TV reception does that to folks.
But seriously, it is extremely interesting and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks for the head's up M1ka (and the review, BG).
