A fellow wrote into MCN that the R1200ST is no longer with us after only a two year stint......True?

Yup,
Turns out there wasn't enough Stevie Wonder types who could stand the looks of the ST. :jester

Hopefully the next version will be much better.

I'm betting they will eventually become cult bikes. Even the hated (at the time) chrome panels on the Slash 5's eventually became cool. :eek

I hear the ST is a great bike to ride. Could be BMW will have some smokin' deals on closeouts.

BMW NA didn't import any of them for much of 2006, but they can now be ordered, and it is back, including at the web site. Nice tasty black color:

the GT should be next!Or will they only drop 1 model per year for (bad) looks?
I prefer the ST any day over the GT for looks.

Too bad, I was hoping they would restyle or redo it for 2007 but hopefully everybody who wanted one can get one and I can save my money for another time.

Why is it that almost, no, ALL, BMW motorcycles look better in Black! The R1200S and the ST are prime examples. I was at a dealer looking at the S and it was amazing how much better the black one looked compared to all the other colors.

WANTED....Used R1200ST in Black..........!

It's in their genes. You can't make black bikes for over 50 years and then start painting them frivolous colors and get away with it! :laugh

Black works for BMW's - and most bikes.

They can be ordered, and I have! In black, of course. Delivery is supposed to be sometime at the end of February or beginning of March. By ordering one, I could get exactly the options I wanted on it.

I must be in the minority here but I really think BMW should investigate other colors. They shouldn't limit most of their bikes to colors that mimic an overcast or stormy German sky. :violin

Hi, Darryl,
The only problem is you can't order them for European delivery like you could in the "Olden Days". Between Harriet and me, we took delivery of 4 different BMW airheads between Nov. '80 and Oct. '84. The '84 R100RS I ordered (next-to-last USA spec bike off the line) had bags, kickstart gearbox, white paint, heavy duty suspension, emergency flasher, crash bars, mud flap and super tool kit, all from the factory. Too bad BMW discontinued that program.

It is a shame. So instead, I've got my '94 R1100RS stored over there. Nobody else wanted it anyway, so what the heck! Now I have a good reason to go over there each summer and bag passes.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the R1200R in Silver. Maybe a good thing (for the wallet) it didn't knock me over. After seeing the press pics methinks there's still hope for Black or Black w/ white pinstripes.

The F800ST w/ titanium (or whatever they call that flat color ... graphitan?) was awesome though. Saw at the Toronto MC show. Blue not bad either.

Could not warm up to the R1200ST. But all that's needed is a frontal fairing change to make it happen.

When my 94 R1100RS suffered a fatal wire harness fire, I almost gave up on BMW and switched to Ducatti. The ST was the bike I have been waiting for years for BMW to come out with but it is ugly.

Then on my regular Friday status visit to check on the R1100RS repair status there was a Black R1200S. Love at first sight. When the dealer asked if I wanted to take if for a ride I was smitten. One week later it was mine. Now I am almost happy the RS burnt.

This bike is asume. They sould put this motor in all the R12's It is outstanding.

I guess the Cruiser wasn't the ugliest Beemer after all.

It's stunning. The black S.
The only way I keep from buying it is to remind myself of what it looks like after I ride all day in the rain and bugs. We had two black K100RSes for lots of years and the grey KSes are simpler. I can almost go to bed without filling the waist paper container in the motel with hot water and washing two bikes. Every night. I'm fighting this...getting the black ones.

I've had Beemers in Gray, Blue, Black and Brown. Brown is my favorite color and the gray looked the cleanest but there is just something about black Beemers.

The ST continues as a 2007 model in other markets. The pricing for the NA 2007 models did not include the ST. A price list for 2006 models was released just prior to the 2007 price list. The 2006 list included the ST. The 2006 pricing appears to establish MSRP for carry over bikes left when the 07s are released. My speculation is that in this market it did not sell and there is enough carry over inventory to meet immediate demand and people willing to wait will get a 07 from the source.

No matter the color they need pinstripping. :wave

Funny thing yesterday a buddy of mine and I went riding in Brooksville the closest thing to twistie roads in Fl. we swapped bikes for about 30 miles. I rode his Ducati 999 parts unlimited edition with race pipe chip set and much extra carbon fiber. Sweet Ride! He has 8 bikes now including a 07 K1200GT and an 06 ST3. The funny thing was he fell in love with my bike and couldn't get over how it did everything well and was sooo comfortable doin it.I've talked about four people in the last two years into trying the ST and three have bought one.

well - ugly to some, and great to others .. i think this is a great bike. add a drak screen fairing ... some SW mottech crash bars ... and it's just looking (and riding) great. heck, since no one else loved this child, I got $2K knocked off the price tag instantly at the delaership. if balck had been around when I was shopping ... i would completely be in stealth mode!!

I made a beeline for the R1200ST at the BMW demo rides at the 2005 MOA Rally (my son wanted me to take the K1200R). I wasn't disappointed. This is the only BMW that holds any of my interest. The front end doesn't bother me at all. Even if it did I figue I'm not lookin' at it as long as I'm ridin' it. I figure about the time I'm ready to retire my K11RS I might find a good pre-owned ST

I actually liked the ST, but then again I also have a GS and some say that's ugly too. I like the looks of a bike that doesn't look like everything else and stands out a bit. The only exception is that 4 headlighted cruiser bike the CLC. Some :bottle designed that one... :stick

I was excited when the ST was first rumoured to be coming. I hoped it would be a potential replacement for my RS when the time came. However, I disliked the ST's styling from first sight. Never got over that hideous headlight, though it seemed less so in person than in the photos. After trying the bike, I found I did't like the seat or the riding position either. The ST seems to be very close to what the R1100S was, which makes it not as desirable for me as a tourer, my RS is about the perfect compromise for me. The RT is too far in the other direction for my likes, too upright and too much fairing. The New K1200GT looks like it might be more in the range I seek, but I'm not sure I really need that much power at the cost of the fuel economy. Plus the K bikes seem so complex compared to the boxers. Electronics aside, I still like to do my own work and the new K engine seems awfully difficult to work on even for someone who is quite skilled. The Hex head seems no more time consuming to service than the original oilhead. When BMW builds me a real RS again, I'll consider buying one. Until then, I'm happy with my 94.
