so of course this is a can of worms
so many variables, how good are they , reputation, dealer, good ol boy club

so I can ride 45 miles south, dealer is 85 an hour
I can go about the same miles north, 79 an hour
a local independent 44 an hour
another local independendent 67 an hour, shcuks we can all find someone at 15 bucks an hour, so its not really fully money, and of course all of us that work in our home garage work for about 10 cents an hour, smiles, and wrench lubricant :drink and to be able to jump up and down and say, I win !!

again, can of worms, experince, reputation

but what are your local labor rates ?????
not trying to use this as a bargining point wiht the "locals", just want to know

local BMW shop 12 miles away - $ 80 or so/hr
BMW shop 100 miles east $ 105.00/hr
BMW shop 120 north west of here $ 80 or so/hour

Your shop rates sound like a deal compared to ours. Of course even your new beemers are a bargain compared to ours. (i.e. the K1200GT I took for a test ride last spring was $ 29,000.00)

If you intend to have all your motorcycle maintenance performed by someone else, I seriously suggest you think about a contemporary oilhead rather than an airhead.

Let's face it: 20-year-old vehicles require more care than newer ones. And many BMW dealers are no longer willing to perform work on airheads. As in the computer world, airheads are "legacy".

The solution is to do your own work. An airhead makes a good "learning tool". Sure, we all screw something up when learning, but everything is fixable one way or the other, and the knowledge gained is priceless.

When I get an airhead "project bike" I figure my labor rates into the mix. For my projects, I assume $0.01 per hour. That way I'm always gonna make money if I ever sell one of my bikes. :) And a few bucks worth of labor can go a long way!!!

I don't work on other folks' bikes. I will, however help someone who is working on their own bike.

The last time I was at Chicago BMW they had posted a winter rate of $50/hr. If you need work, run right down.

It's been about 3 weeks or so, you should call first.
