There is a very insteresting thread running on improved tail lights.
I would like to know if there are improvements for the head light intensity. I don't think you can have to much light on a bike.

Thank you for the link. I was very concerned when I saw the intensity of the head light.
Thanks again,
Doug

Try a Halogen H4 bulb? You might also need to upgrade some wiring...

Upgrade the wiring? Do you mean increase the wire guage? And would that be all of the wires then?

Your best bet on a /5 is to SLOW DOWN! :lol

Most of my driving is around town and so lots of stop and waiting before going. The stock charging system is not sufficent to do anything but just run the bike. Just turning the headlight on will run the battery slowly down.
I first tried the 400W Omega system:
http://www.motoelekt.com/charging.htm
A well thought out kit which is moderately easy to install. It is fine on the highway but around town with a headlight, heated grips and a heated vest (never mind anything else) the battery still slowly discharges.
I don't mind a bit of discharging at idle but it has got to get to full output as soon as possible. So I am now in the middle of fitting one of these 880W units:
http://www.geocities.com/jimmywanger/alternator.html
A very well engineered kit but not a simple bolt on by any stretch of the imagination. It is supposed to have full output by 1600 rpm. If so, then I will be able to also run a driving light (or two) and another heated vest with no trouble.

Jim Davis, of Eastern Beaver, sells a relay kit that allows full battery voltage to the headlight, usually resulting in a brighter headlight.
$30 or so. I think his site is www.easternbeaver.com

Didn't Matt Parkhouse have a Tech Article on this very subject? I'm sure only the wires that feed the headlight need to be looked at. Possibly also the receptacle for the bulb itself.

They claim 280watts @ 2k rpm.

Hi, Dave,
You wrote, "Jim Davis, of Eastern Beaver, sells a relay kit that allows full battery voltage to the headlight, usually resulting in a brighter headlight."
"$30 or so. I think his site is www.easternbeaver.com"
I bought 4 of his kits a couple of years ago when he was in Canada. Then, they were about $50 each. I have two bikes left on which I had mounted kits and, so far, they work just as advertised. I mounted the third kit on the K75RT we sold to Harriet's brother and have heard no complaints. I gave the fourth one to Paul Glaves, still in its bag, when he bought the K75, now christened Smokey II. I haven't heard any complaints about it, either!

I have used it since the summer and I recommend it. It yields about 100 more watts power at about 1000 lower rpm with 14+ volts, a noticeable improvement over the stock system. It is discussed here.

The jimmywanger kit pictures just raise questions. Does one exchange a short block for machining or just covers? What is the cost? A belt driven alternator will give more power than one can use. BMW should have done this in 1970.

As far as the original question, I changed the headlight bulb to 80/100 watts years ago to get good lighting.

The 880W is quite the fiddle but it is possible for anyone who would do a timing chain for example. It is very straight forward.
One extra hole has to be drilled and tapped in the block but you have a great template (the new alt) and behind the new hole is the breather so you can stuff it full of rags while you do the work. The timing cover is shortened and the top and front covers trimmed but it all well documented.
I am busy doing a whole bunch of work to my 95 R100R hack (dual plugs, R80G/SPD tank, old style seat and side covers plus some maintenance like splines, headset and swing arm bearings) but I will report back when it is all up and running.

looking more at the endura, the electronic control worries me
only cause Im an old fart and in the "olden days" things like that were not reliable, same with the dyna ignition, that control box, cant be reset on a back road with a feeler gauge, so I wonder about that unit too
dont need to be miles from no place and people saying
what is that you need ah enduro what?
but I guess thats not a bunch different then being in the middle of bum frick nowhere and telling someone.......its an airhead......an old bmw.....and I need a diode board
other then that, the power and price look very interesting
but I like the clean approach of the omega,
so wiht the belt drive, when it stretches, and it will, how do you adjust it
or do you just deal with a loud belt
do you shim it like old vw's........ :brow

so just how much extras can you throw at a stock system ??
such as the original post of extra power headlight
my bike came with a halogen light up front, are you guys saying that the wires can not handle the draw ???? then why does it come stock with a H4 headlight ???
I would love to add a extra light
even a exta light or two like PIAA's
my scooter is near stock but I wouldnt mind some extra lights up front, not for me but for the others on the road to see me coming
"motorcycle what motorcycle, I did not see a motorcycle"
the back end I have a LED brake, ride-n lites and hyper lites, adn they dont seem to draw much
at this time , I dont need heated grips or vest, seems I have enough insulation :drink :german :twirl
