I seem to be shrinking in my old age. I would like to lower my 1979 R65. I already have lowered the seat. The shocks are probably next. The standard shock is 13 inch. Are there 11.5 or 12 inch shocks available? Where? Any suggestions on lowering the bike would be greatfully appreciated. Thanks, Richard, cetco@hotmail.com, 325-864-0014.

Call Works Performance - repeat the question.

Then before mounting the new shocks measure a rear distance and a front distance from two known points down to the ground.

After installing the rear shocks loosen the triple clamps at the fork legs and slide the fork tubes up into the clamps to re-establish level. If your rear point dropped 1 inch then make sure the front point drops the same amount. Tighten the clamps.

Go ride. You will have less ground and cornering clearance, so be careful till you figure out what has changed. Impact on steering will be minimal if you re-level the bike by dropping the front. It will be wierd if you don't.

Luckily, old R65's have cast upper triple clamps, so it is possible to slide the forks up. Can't do that with most BMWs.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will replace the shocks and adjust the front forks this winter.

I had the driver portion of the seat lowered about 1.5 inches when the seat was redone by a guy in California. He advertizes in the Airhead magazine. He did a nice job at a reasonable price.

I now have a 26 inch inseam. It's only a problem when I stop. It was especially a problem on my K1200LT. I converted it into a trike. No more falling over.

Thanks again.
