The shocks crapped out today. Took a few seconds to figure out why the side stand wouldn't deploy. :) Looks like the best choices are Progressive and Ikon. Anybody care to comment on the difference between the two? I liked the Koni's I had on my R100, but I don't see much reason to pay the extra $75 or so unless there's a big difference.

There are actually many different shocks available; depending on how much you want to spend. It's good to not just get the "cheap" models, as it can make a huge difference to your ride.

That being said, I'm running Progressive 418's (About $350-$400 for a pair), which have adjustable damping and preload adjustments. The "standard" progressives are the 412's, which are a lot cheaper, but also not rebuildable, and only offer preload settings.

I have a pair of Works Performance Street Trackers on my R90S and am very pleased with them. They were custom built for my weight and riding style, and they look similar to the originals.

I had originally planned on going with Works fork springs AND shocks. I had such a terrible time with:

1) getting someone there to answer the phone

2) getting someone to call me back when I left a message (I tried ordering shocks in Feb and never heard back and got sidetracked. Same thing happened when I tried again in early June)

3) getting them to actually do what I asked (ship springs seperate, NOW, shocks later - yes, I asked to make sure the fork springs were in stock and ready to ship)

4) getting moody people on the phone when I called, and no, I wasn't yelling or being nasty. The nicest person was the phone operator; A+ to her.

I decided to cancel my order with them and went with progressive stuff, all around. I had heard good things about them from others, but that wasn't my experience.

YMMV.

I had good results with Works and good service. I placed my order in June of this year and received the shocks 2 weeks later, as they said they would. Looking at the receipt, (cuz I have a poor memory :) ), the model number I got was the DRS 161-210 ARS. Price was $473.00. They have 4 adjustable positions. I like the shocks and they were pretty easy to install. I've heard that IKON (KONI) are better, but I have no personal experience with thoes.

I put Progressive fork springs in too with good results (I got thoes from Bob's-great service!).

good luck,
Laurie

You might check out Ted Porter at http://www.beemershop.com/. He's a BMW wrench in NoCal and he's showing a sale on Ohlins. Also, I understand that the original designer of Wilbers shocks is now designing a YSS shock...Ted also is a distributor for those.
