Greetings. Just purchased an 89 K100RS last week. Let me first say... I LOVE IT!!!! This bike has a lot of firsts for me. First with fuel injection, first running one with shaft drive and first with ABS. I could use any info I can get on the personality of this machine. Especially the abs. I got an owners manual with it but it has nothing in it about the abs brake system. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I plan on enjoying this bike for as many years as possible. Thanks!

Congratulations Bill and welcome to the asylum :wave

I'm not a K-bike owner or have experience with the older ABS systems but if it's working you can test it with a "Quick Stop" and then feel confident about how it works. I don't make it a habit of relying on that stuff but it sure is nice to have when the chips are not in your favor.

Good luck and have fun.

Welcome to the club :nod

I can't help too much with the ABS but you should inspect everything that is made of rubber on a bike that age. Search the BMW related sites (IBMWR) et. al. regarding drive train splines. Learn to inspect/lube them yourself or make arrangements to have it done. With a few exceptions you have purchased a fairly bulletproof machine.

Welcome to the darkside Bill.

SFDOC is right. I bought a 91 S model, and the first thing I did was take it up to 45 and then get on the brakes HARD. You should hear a very audible click click click as the ABS kicks in. Hopefully you have a parking lot or deserted street nearby. ABS brakes on a bike are a godsend, they've saved me on more than one occasion.

Depending on where you got it from, you may want to consider a trip to the local dealer for an inspection. They'll be able to look at it, listen to it, and give you a pretty good idea if anything is remiss.

Also, while you're wandering around this site take a look at user's signatures. A lot of people put what type of bike they're riding in it. Most are friendly enough that if you find someone else riding a similar machine, they'll try to help you out.

Enjoy your brick!

Welcome. Go over to the K bike section of the Forum and spend a few hours looking around, and you'll quickly be up to speed on them. There are also a number of outside special K bike sites, and you'll see links to them in the K bike section here.

Thanks for the help everyone! Soon as I can, I'll do that braking test. The bike was an ebay purchase, but the seller was quite honest and somewhat knowledgable about the bike. I've put about 600mi on it so far without a hiccup. Nearest BMW dealer is about 2hrs from me so I'll try to get up there soon. Thanks again!

I'm confused. Isn't this right here the K bike section? Is there another K bike section over somewhere?
