I have an electrical OEM problem with my 2001 1100RT that I would like someones opinion on. It will start and run fine then all of a sudden the motor will stall out. When I attempt to start it again and depress the starter button there is nothing. It doesn't make any noise at all and I continue to attempt to start it and maybe after 8 to 10 attempts it will kick in and turn over and start. Does anybody have any ideas on what this might be..? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't see any replies to this post. The symptoms kind of rule out the usual reasons that an oilhead would stall since you don't even have a starter when it happens. Maybe an open in the battery or cables. Do you have lights, etc. when you try to restart and get no starter turn over?
I don't know offhand but on this model does the kickstand switch prevent the starter from turning over, and the gas pump from running or both?

Two types of problem come to mind here. First, check the battery cable connections. I have seen a loose or corroded connection cause these symptoms. Check battery voltage key off, key on, and starter button pushed too.

If the battery and connections check out then check all the usual interlocks: kill switch, sidestand switch, etc. Turn the key on and listen for the fuel pump to start and run a few seconds. Flip the kill switch several times, ditto the ignition, ditto the sidestand.

Also, when it is in the "dead" condition - key on, check all lights, particularly the headlight.
