I just bought a 1996 GS with 14,000 miles on it. The front brake discs are loose enough on the mounting pins that they rattle when hitting bumps at low speed (gravel roads, driveways, ect). My 98 RT's discs are loose enough to move but not so much that they rattle. Is this a spoke wheel thing or do I have a problem?

14k is not even broken in yet. I have 106 k miles on my 96 GS with no rattles. Might be a good idea to have a dealer or other experienced person look at it.

I also have a 96 GS. I had to replace the front rotors at only 25,000 miles. Your brake discs are meant to float side to side. To do that they are mounted to the disc carrier by bolts that also have spring washers on them. On my rotors the holes were worn into ovals but they should be perfectly round. Half the hole is in the carrier and half is in the rotor. You'll understand after removing the bolts. If the holes are round then you can pick up a set of bolts and spring washers which may help. Pray that you don't need new rotors, they are very expensive.

You need to replace the buttons on your discs. Fairly easy job. All you need to know is here. (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=573&highlight=disc+buttons)
