I have a problem that I want to throw out there and see if anyone else had a similar experience. My 2001 1100RT recently started doing this. I will start it and occassionally (not always) the motor will suddenly stop. The lights are still on in the dash but when I push on the start button, there is nothing at all. It doesn't crank over or even make a noise at all. Then after trying it a number of times it will all of a sudden start and run. Then maybe it will do the same thing later on or the next day. It did this once to me twice within an hour. I think it's probably an O.E.M. problem with some relay or other electrical unit. Can someone out there share with me if you have had this same or similar problem and what you found to be wrong with it? I would appreciate any input you can give me. I love the bike and I have 31K miles on it. brunos1dad@sbcglobal.net

It may be a dirty contact in the starter button or kill switch. I had a similar problem on an old Suzuki...contact cleaner fixed it.

Or a bad SideStand Switch,
