Found this at the bmwsporttouring.com site:

Disable your ABS system for riding on dirt
J. Dekker <info@dewolff.nl> of the Netherlands reports that its easy to start the bike with ABS disabled. Simply reverse the start-up procedure: Press the starter button and THEN turn the key. The ABS will not engage.

That's all the info, wondering if anyone here with an RT has seen this and tried it while on dirt roads?

My bike has an ABS switch and I just push push it to turn it off. To turn it back on I have to restart the bike (I think...). You should be able to try (J. Dekkers) method out in the garage to see if the ABS lights start flashing, no need to head out to find dirt to try it.

No,
You cannot disable the ABS on your RT unless you start pulling relays and cables off.

The ABS switch (like on the other poster's bike) cannot be disabled that way either. The R1100 GS CAN be disabled by holding the ABS warning cancel switch during starting.....or so I've been told.

To disable the ABS on my bike I run through the following three step protocol:

Step 1. Ride my bike home from work (17 miles) with auxillary lights and heated vest on.

Step 2. Do not connect the trickle charger.

Step 3. Start the bike the next morning, in the cold garage.

That usually does the trick.

lol.............

you can also try removing the rear wheel sensor, that'll disable it, pull it out, start the bike up, spin the rear wheel for good measure, shut it off, put the sensor back in, presto, no abs!

I thought that you could disable the ABS by simply, modifying the start up. If you just hold the brake on and start the bike without waiting for the flashing lights to settle, this would prevent the ABS to be properly configured, meaning no ABS and the light would stay on constantly.
