K1200RS New Paint

Last winter I was thinking about repainting my 99 K12RS due to signs of road wear and a slight bodywork crack near the top gas tank panel discovered after a dealer service. My decision to repaint the bike was made for me this weekend when I went down. I was wearing full protective gear and except for the fact that my foot ended up between the shifter pedal and the asphalt and is know a lovely shade of purple I'm OK.

Here is my dilemma

1. Do I repaint the bike the original BMW red?
2. Do repaint the bike another BMW color?
3. Given the fact that my favorite color is orange do I paint it metallic orange similar to the Aprilla orange? How would the K look in metalic color?

What do you think? Any color suggestions?

There are a number of photo shop programs that allow you to import your photo and them customize it. You can probably find one that you can change the colors of the bike. Also check http://community.webshots.com/album/11401437skDTBx for K12 pictures. Or just search K12 photos for custom paint schemes. There are some nice custom bikes out there, and if I didn't love my Mandarin/Graphite with checker board paint so much, I'd be tempted to do mine custom color and powdercoat the wheels. I'd vote for a new color since it needs to be done now anyway. The next thing to think about, how long do you plan on keeping it? Resale may be effected by a non-factory color, but since it is now 8 years old (the '07's are here) custom may increase the value. Let us know what you decide and post pictures!

Speaking of orange, how about an R90s paint scheme? Too much? Just a thought. rj

Thanks for the input guys. Rob I've been searching the web and actually found a K12 painted in the R90 paint scheme. Looked nice but I could imagine the price tag.
