Shortly after I bought my 2003 R1150 GS Adventure, I bought a Fenda Extenda which I later returned and instead decided to make a mud/stone guard for my Adventure that was cheaper, more elegant, simple and functional...IMO. Made from an 8" x 8" (then trimmed and bent) sheet of 0.025" stainless steel.

The section that "hangs over" the engine protection cross bar was rolled for a 1/2" radius. The photo shows closed cell foam tape between the cross bar and mud/stone guard, but that was replaced by an 8" long section of thin wall (3/4" ID, 1" OD) black rubber/vinyl washer hose that was slipped over the cross bar for a non-metal-to-metal, rattle-free installation.

The BMW engine protection plate was drilled and tapped for two M6 fasteners with fiber washers used under the heads of the fasteners as well as between the guard and engine protection plate. Loctite 242 was used to secure the fasteners.

Alex, how come your bike looks brand new? :stick

It's a GS, mine looks like sh!t and it's only a couple years older.

I attached (made out of plastic) my DOD registration sticker plate and put it over the top of the same cross bar. It works pretty good at keeping stuff from from under the front cover... :D

I like what you did though, will you make me one? :wave

Is that really a GS?
I think it's too clean!

Russ, you have to move to where it rains a lot more. Driving in the rain washes the bike every time you take it out. :stick

Post pics of it and any other self-made mods on this thread (http://www.bmwmoa.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13188).

Well I have the dimensions. It takes about an hour to make and install.

No such thing as a "too clean" GS...just lazy owners. :p

Lazy or too busy riding.

I don't think mine will ever look like that again.
