My 88 k100 (125k) starter was just spinning the other day, after a bump start & 50 miles it started fine. I've heard about the valve medic fix have people had luck with it? I allways use mo1 or syntec. Should I use the v-med with syn or regular oil & how long should it stay in the motor also how many times can you use this stuff?? Thanks much for any help

Somewhere in the forum, I enquired about the same issue and Paul Glaves responded. I'm not sure where the reply is, but I know it is there. Good hunting!

Here is the post from Paul Glaves. Do a search for "Valve Medic"

I have had good experiences using Valve Medic. It, like the CD-2, is a solvent designed to be added to the oil to dissolve gums and varnish. I'm not at all sure which of the two is better. Some folks have run Rislone in their oil. I've stuck with Valve Medic because it has worked for me.

As for the buildup of those gums and varnish, that is partly a function of the frequency of oil changes, and partly a function of other factors such as whether you do lots of short rides, all long trips, etc, and arguably the kind of oil used. As a counterpoint to Don's - Old Smokey ran on a regular diet of Castrol GTX and never exhibited a sticky sprag clutch that I recall. But I've had a bunch of others (including one of Voni's) with various oil brands including Castrol have problems and need either the chemical cleaning, or in the most stubborn cases removal and cleaning by hand.
