Thanks for the photo! I wish some of that amazing engine was visible on my '06 GT.

TOO bad it has the same cheezy saddlebags as the K12R and K12S. Wake up BMW, put the K12GT bags on this bike and you've got a mega 2-up Sport Tourer! Don't loose me and a lot of others to the FJR!!!

Don't knock those bags until you try them. They are better functionally than the K12RS bags by far, more secure on the bike and very light compared to the new K12RT, ST, and GT. The volume of the RT bag is not as great as it seems, since the new latching system takes up about a two inch space around the inside of the bag. The K12S bags, while not being waterproof (they come with a waterproof bag liner) are suprisingly water resistant to riding in downpours all day or sitting in the rain. They pick up at the most nothing or maybe a tablespoon of water in the bottom. About the same as all the BMW bags I have ever had which were supposed to be waterproof. They are not very resistant to the garden hose, however. The expansion system allows one to pick up a major sized bag of pretzels just before getting to the rally grounds. Some may want to put a six pack in the other side to even up the looks, however.
I don't see them when I'm riding...

I know nothing about K bikes, but that flimsy piece of metal supporting the bottom of the radiator (?) is not very reassuring. Is that a normal structural piece on the K-R bikes?

That is a steel rod which stabilizes the radiator front to rear. The radiator is supported up at it's top. It's been just fine that way.

Jack, I think the standard soft expandable bag is fine for 1-up touring. However, try strapping a duffle holding a full size thermorest, sleeping bag, camp pillow, and sheet on top of each one. Then try to strap a 10 lb tent and a 24" Helen Two-wheels duffle on the luggage rack. Now you're touring 2-up. Sadly, BMW has failed to address the needs of the 2-up sport rider, especially one that camps. The new K12GT, R12RT, and K12LT work great 2-up, but, they're not sport tourers. JMO...
Hope to see you and Viki at Falling Leaf.

Full size thermorests? Camp pillow? 10 lb tent? Drink blender? Where do you put the folding chairs? Heh heh.
Don't let Viki find out you guys take all that stuff. I've been telling her for years that you ship it on ahead. Sport tourers aren't supposed to take all that stuff. We're supposed to sleep on the thermorest lites and sit in everybody else's chairs.
We were ready to go to Falling leaf, really were looking forward to it, but today Viki walked outside and said something about not wanting to be cold. So... maybe if we had those big bags...
I did notice that the wind from the west was testing my heated jacket liner even at 40 F this morning.

Not to hijack this thread, but some of you carry alot of stuff.
Wouldn't you be better off pulling a small bike trailer?
I saw a cartoon many years ago that showed a couple on a generic motorcycle pulling a huge motor-home that was packed to the gills with chairs, antennae, etc.
I did not see the drink blender in the cartoon. :laugh

Hey now, that blacked out silver one is sharp, but no cowling on the others? looks kinda dorky without it. I don't think i'll trade the k1200s in on one though.
The bags don't hold much, but there are other bag makers. At least they come off quick and don't look as stupid as the k1200rs bags were. I tour on an r1200GS so they suit me fine for overnighters.
