I guess you missed the memo, WWIII is already underway. The USS Cole and the World Trade Towers were some of the minor skirmishes that may have gained your notice.

Love the ads and articles. "The Problem w/ Islam", "Help Persecuted Christians", "President Bush is not to blame for the rampant immorality of blacks", "Ann Coulter bikini calendar".
Good ol' non-biased news.

At least as non-biased as NPR. I missed the Ann Coulter bikini calendar.
Some consider the current troubles WW IV. I'm a cockeyed optimist but it is by no means certain we're winning.
http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52373 I surfed the site and found this. Thought provoking.

i define bias in the news as anything that conflicts with what i already believe. as long as the news agrees with my opinions, then it is correct.
in addition, i require all issues to be reduced to a very clear choice between good and evil. don't hamper me with all sorts of facts and analysis. don't make me read three pages to understand 2,000 years of human history on an entire continent! don't tell me what the other side is saying or thinking. don't waste my time taking 3-5 minutes to present any sort of CONTEXT for an issue, simply give me the soundbite that i can agree with and move on! don't present ANY information that undermines my eventual choice for the "good" side. i can't handle it. i experience cognitive dissonance whenever i walk through one of those doors with bi-directional hinges, so don't even get my head spinning on shades of grey with regard to foreign policy, monetary policy, and morality.
pretty simple really. sometimes i get relaxed, so it's also good if the news gives me *new* fears. that's why i like local news, it makes me think my city is nothing but murderers, rapists, and arsonists puncuated only by restaurants that will give me food poisoning, day care centers that inadvertently slaughter children, and record pollen counts. occasionally i also find out that the muffler shop down the street has been overcharging senior citizens, and i get so angry i want to march on washington, but then the microwave goes "DING!" and i have no choice but to eat another couple of hotpockets.

Syria is "preparing its public for war."
They had been fighting over there for hundreds of years. Why is this suddenly news?
In terms of WWIII, I'm much more concerned about the Korean dilemma than I am about a centuries old family feud in Palestine.

I want to go deer hunting this year.
This reminds me of a Gary Larson Cartoon where two fishermen in a boat look out at a mushroom cloud on the horizon. one says "you Know what this means? NO LIMITS, we can catch as much fish as we want"
Go hunting all you want. I guess you can fill up the freezers in every house on the block.

The N. Koreans didn’t have a nuke 6 years ago, the Iranians are much closer now than 6 years ago in their quest to develop a nuke. There is more terrorism in the world now than there was six years ago.
With leadership that is unencumbered by the thought process, no wonder the world is more screwed up now.

Visian asked:so, whadda we do? nuke em? talking ain't working... An unfortunate scenario is that (now that we know they have nukes) is that North Korea fires another missile or several missiles towards Japan or the U.S., or into South Korea, and all hell breaks loose.
- Japan attacks across the waters.
- U.S. warheads are fired from subs lurking offshore.
- South Korean and U.S. troops move north across the DMZ.
And China? A very subtle people, they have publicly expressed disagreement and urged restraint to the North -- which is equivalent to a stinging public rebuke in our culture. So who knows whether they will join the fray or stand back and watch...
At any rate, it could go from very tense to totally nasty within the space of minutes.
IMHO

Increase our air defense capabilities. More Patriot batteries. Stateside and on allied soil. Shoot em down before they get rolling. I know the system is a bit flawed but so is the current plan.

Actually, talking *multi-laterally* is working, just not quite the way we want, nor as quickly. China's statement was very encouraging, and I sure hope we continue twisting their arm for more action. Their 2008 coming-out party is just around the corner...
Right now the prez is getting beat for not talking directly to the DPRK, but doing that played a big role in how we've gotten where we are (plus, it made the neighboring players feel left out...). Talking directly gives the NK's the ability to say "it's America's fault"... where it ain't so easy to make that claim when there are 6 other parties holding the same position.
There really isn't a good military option in this situation, unless we wish to see the South Koreans tossed to the dogs.
One comment I heard last night is how strong a message it would send if Japan asked us to place a portion of our missle defense system on Okinawa.

I used to be very supportive of the current regime in Washington but I've noticed that our administration is a little to quick to pull the "T" word (terrorist) and the "P" (patriotic or un patriotic) when the going gets rough.
The terrorists, and Washington, have us running scared and chasing our tails while they play their little reindeer games behind the scenes.
I recently watched V for Vendetta and was struck by the Chancellor screaming "We need to show the people why they need us!"
Remember what "V" said..."People should not be afraid of their government. The government should be afraid of its people."
To me that says get fresh blood in there. Term limits aren't the solution. Think of what these clowns would do if they knew they were lame ducks.
Then this Foley thing, the Abromoff fiasco.....we not only have pervs in our public offices but a bunch of people who are more interested in serving themselves and their political parties (more like influence cartels) than the people. This election I think I'm tempted to vote non-incumbant regardless of party.
Lately, freedon is my bag. After taking in to account what I mentioned above and being deep influenced by the aforementioned movie I've decided that I may just say "None of your friggin' business where I'm flying to" before I answer the question at an airport.
I attended a lecture recently in which one of the points the lecturer made was the third world war has already ended. He argued that it was the cold war. We are in the IV world war by his count and by some of the others in this thread.
All of this led me to wonder about history and how some of its key players feel about the numbering game. Why doesn’t Alexander the Greats, the Roman, Genghis Kahn, European colonial expansion, Napoleonic, or the Crusader wars get numbers? (Wait the Crusades do get numbers, but they just describe which iteration of the product we are looking at.)
War is always outside my door. It is how I choose to interact with it that turns or does not turn it into a world war for me.
Now the important stuff…did someone say something about a bikini calendar?

I think we're more aware of the level now than six years ago, but there really isn't much more.
WW III ended when the Berlin Wall fell, according to some.
Your comment on leadership is dead on. Wait until democracy takes hold in other places and they STILL don't vote the way the current administration thinks they should. Anybody remember Turkey refusing to let us put troops across their soil?
I think it's in Chinese interest to rein in NK. It'll keep our attention off the fact they're bankrupting us with $70+ for a barrel of oil.
Maybe bikini calendars are an answer.

1. v is for vendetta should be seen by as many people as possible prior to the election, it gets one thinking.
2. i think the government needs to be swapped out every ten years or so. the current party in power has had its power for too long. they need to be turned out to re-think what it means to serve american citizens.
it's time to flush the toilet folks, these turds have been in there for too long.

This weekend I will be entering the Void, a place where the only issues are time and distance.
The Void is a 12 hr mini Iron Butt Style rally out of Lynchburg, VA..
My route is about 650 miles and includes a stop in Beverly, WV. The route looks like a hell of a ride and there will be no time for any BS.
I tell ya these kinds of events are so much fun. There is a dinner the night before followed by a riders meeting. Saturday morning we are up at 5 for a final meeting then we are on our way by 5:30 for a day of riding.
Everyone got the bonus locations last Sunday. Friday night's packet will include the exact instructions on how to earn points.
I was looking forward to getting some more saddle time on the RTP (07 IBR bike) but the route definately favors the Adventure.
I am psyched to ride and leave politics behind.
I also think that the person who started this thread should try posting this kind of debait on Adventure Riders.
Have a nice day.
Let's ride bikes!

I would never want to subject others to such a bad movie. One of the worst I've seen in a while. If you want to get people thinking about freedom and democracy, read the writings of the founding fathers. "V" is for the birds...

I have to agree with a previous poster, there are too many politicians on both sides of the fence that are only out to serve themselves of "the party". We need to flush the toilet and make them see that they serve us and not the other way around.
I am also impressed that this thread, as politically charged as it is has gone 2 pages and not ended up in the doghouse. Nice of everyont to be civil to each other. :usa

BMW Motorrad is making a proud appearance at the 2006 INTERMOT
Motorcycle Show in Cologne, Germany, with the widest and most varied
model range in the history of the Company.
The all-new single-cylinder model series is making its world debut with
a fascinating range of three brand-new motorcycles quite different in their
features and character – the G 650 Xcountry, the G 650 Xchallenge,
and the G 650 Xmoto. And at the same time the K-model series is growing
further, with the BMW K 1200 R teaming up with its sister model,
the K 1200 R Sport, boasting extra sporting and dynamic fairing.

Quite frankly, I'm tired of everybody hating US (with our tax dollars) and we have to police the planet.
When I become dictator, it will be simply this; ANYTHING bad happens to us, somebody gets nuked, randomly. Perhaps this will be incentive to the targets.

Far from the turmoil and trouble of the far east ( Washington) and the farther east (N. Korea)
The Calif./ Oregon border is the straight green line at the very top of the photo. Hwy 96 runs in a jagged horizontal beneath the border, and Scott River Road (the location of this years Fungal camp out) is the sinuous vertical line.
