BMW has not made any formal announcements so this is still rumor; however, the pictured X Challenge appears to be the same bike as one posted by Raptors and Rockets.

MotorcycleNews.com a British site is reporting:

October 10, 2006
BMWs three new 650s

BMW has launched a completely new series of bikes all based around a 650cc single cylinder engine.

The G-Series boasts three models, which are all a variation on the enduro/supermoto theme.

The G650 Xchallenge is the enduro version with longer travel suspension and 21-inch front wheel giving it real off-road potential.

The Xmoto is the supermoto version designed to take on the likes of the KTM duke II with 17-inch allow wheels front and rear.

And half way between the two is the Xcountry, a trial-styled city bike with a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear.

All the bikes are around 160kg, will make 53bhp and should cost no more than £5000.

BMW has not made any formal announcements so this is still rumor:

MotorcycleNews.com a British site is reporting:
October 10, 2006

BMW has launched a new version of its K1200 bike, half way between the K1200S and K1200R.

The new K1200R Sport is essentially the same as the K1200R but gets a half fairing in the style of the K1200S.

Despite only being half faired the firm claims the bike boasts good wind protection for the rider with wind tunnel work carried out to make sure the rider is kept out of the weather.

The bike is slightly heavier than the naked K1200R at 241kg but it’s still lighter than the S.

The new machine is expected to cost somewhere in between the two current bikes at just under £10,000.

I'm sure someone will bemoan the lack of a new retro bike, but this is the kind of stuff that makes me get all giddy for a new bike. Manufacturers reaching for new answers to sometimes unasked questions is a good thing. MHO.

Now where's that F800GS?

BMW MOTORRAD - NEW MODELS AND FEATURES AT INTERMOT 2006.

10/10/2006

1. INTERMOT 2006 -
Product Range and new Models/Features.

________________________________________
BMW Motorrad is making a proud appearance at the 2006 INTERMOT Motorcycle Show in Cologne, Germany, with the widest and most varied model range in the history of the Company.

The all-new single-cylinder model series is making its world debut with
a fascinating range of three brand-new motorcycles quite different in their features and character - the G 650 Xcountry, the G 650 Xchallenge,
and the G 650 Xmoto. And at the same time the K-model series is growing further, with the BMW K 1200 R teaming up with its sister model,
the K 1200 R Sport, boasting extra sporting and dynamic fairing.

These new models are further enhanced and supplemented by a new,
truly exclusive line of accessories: Entering the market in autumn 2006,
the new range of BMW Motorrad High Performance Parts will offer
truly outstanding, highly functional special accessories for nearly all models within the line-up. These will include top-class and sophisticated
lightweight and tuning components made of carbon-fibre, exclusive CNC-milled running gear components, as well as forged wheels.

Within the wide range of BMW Motorrad rider's equipment, a revised and enlarged collection with new features, colours and designs will ensure an even higher standard of function, appeal, and individual style.

The new range of accessories from BMW Motorrad High Performance Parts and the new features offered in the range of BMW Motorrad Rider's Wear are presented in separate press kits.

Including the new single-cylinder model series, the BMW Motorrad model range is now made up of no less than 19 different models. With their characteristic features, these models meet all kinds of customer wishes and preferences absolutely perfectly in the segment above 500 cc, offering a very attractive choice in the respective motorcycle categories.

More sporting than ever before, but without neglecting those classic BMW virtues, all BMW motorcycles offer a host of innovations and trendsetting safety technologies. Indeed, the fully controlled three-way catalytic converter introduced on BMW motorcycles more than 15 years ago is now obviously
a primary feature on all models, just like ABS anti-lock brakes.

BMW Motorrad has been the benchmark in active safety for a long time, with all models in the range (except for the BMW HP2 Enduro) becoming available with ABS straight from the factory in the last five years. And in July of last
year the fourth generation of ABS anti-lock brake technology ever since the initial introduction of this feature in 1989 was presented to the international press together with BMW Motorrad's new ASC Automatic Stability Control. Together, these two systems once again underline the leadership in technology of BMW Motorrad and the Company's leading position in the area of active motorcycle safety.

The current model range is younger than ever before - with the exception of the K 1200 LT Luxury Tourer maintaining the same features as in the past,
not one single model has been in the market for more than 21∕2 years. Based on a broad range of development activities in recent years, therefore,
the entire model line-up has been totally renewed from the ground up ever since the beginning of 2004. And in the same period not only highlights in technology such as the Evo-Paralever and the cast single-unit swing arm in combination with toothed belt drive have been introduced as new features, but also world-first achievements such as the Duolever, the air spring damper system, Electronic Suspension Adjustment (ESA) and mass compensation via the swing arm. Further progressive technologies adapted and carried over from automobile construction, finally, such as anti-knock engine management and xenon headlights, round off the leadership in innovation so characteristic of the brand.

Both the HP2 Megamoto and the G X-Moto really intrigue me.

I think it's neat to see that they're starting to sell more performance oriented accessories for their lineup. What do you suppose they have for an RT? :evil

Maybe they've got the stuff to take it from being a 540i to an M5?

I think it will be interesting to see what kind of people these bikes bring into our community.

Just 10 short years ago, the radically different F650 was introduced and I remember a long conversation with Don Douglass about the new, less experienced riders that would be joining our world.

Some of these bikes are for very serious riders, many of whom will be coming from other brands.

Interesting times for us and BMW.

Hey, I'll bet the English Trials at the 49er is going to be a lot more interesting next year....

And, will there be a Supermoto drift contest in the Field Events at the National? :laugh

It will be interesting to see what this does for ridership, sales and dealers.

I have a 50 page pdf that came with the BMW press release. I am reading it over and will pass it along in the Morning Reads once I make sense of it.

Indeed. And, here I stand, ready to volunteer and come to the aid of my MOA. Simply outfit me with any of the new models and I shall endeavor to use it to attract new members to the fold. I think it makes sense to concentrate on the demographic where we are the most sorely lacking, if we want to truly think of ourselves as diverse and welcoming. That is correct: young women.

Please let me know when I can expect the new machine.

Hey Derek:

Apparently, yes. Go to the MOA home page and check the right-hand margin below the newest forum posts and flea market items. Click on the '07 list prices. Note there is no ST on the price list.

Coincedence that the K1200R Sport appears after they drop the ST?

I think that had more to do with the fact that the ST did not sell well against the Bandit 1200 in Europe and Suzuki commited publicly to the new 1250 Bandit that meets EU emission specs. The Suzuki model has been popular over there with naked, S, and now a GT model.

Seems skimpy, but well within the norm for dual sport. A DRZ400 comes stock with 10 liters (2.6 gallons). Of course it weighs a good bit less and only makes 38 hp or so.

Hi Voni - hope you two are having fun... are you getting in a ride or two?

Question -- has there been any indication about the F800GS? I was really hoping they'd say something about this model at the show.

Can you post a pic or two of the new bikes in the RW?

Thanks!

OK. I'm back.

Just caught a quick interview with Katja Poensgen.

Life is good here.

As there are no representatives from BMW in the US, enthusiastic BMW of Germany staff members answered questions as well as they could. Rumors of a 450 single and an F800GS can't be answered because BMW likes to surprise their customers. If they told us, no surprise.

The lowest seat height is on the xCountry at 84 to 87 cm. But they reminded me seat height is only part of how a bike sits.

The lowest entrz level bike right now is the F650GS because they haven't fixed the prices yet on the G series.

Off to a slide show on desert photography. More later.
