It would be nice if videos like this where on TV.

Indeed. Thanks for the link. Great piece, and interesting to watch the production.

If this is like most Public Service Announcements, it will be distributed to stations around the country and then put into the placement rotation, as each station must run a specific amount of PSAs in their market over a set period of time.

So, it will probably come on at 2am during Hogan's Heroes re-runs. :doh

FWIW, I'd rather see some of my AMA membership money go toward paid placement of these ads...

Great video, I'm glad the AMA is putting that out. We need more like it in the media today and it's a good use of our dues.
The tough reminder for me is that one of the firefighters shown on the news in this clip who died this summer was a good friend of mine. What never came out in his story was the fact that he had been drinking for 6 hours prior to the crash, did not have a helmet on (or any other safety gear) and hit a curb and broke his neck about 300 feet from his driveway. I got in his grill for years about never wearing a helmet, but he and all his firefighter buddies went for the lifestyle image of harley guy and they enjoyed there freedom on their bikes. He never gave me crap for wearing ATGATT, but I just wish he would have made some better choices, so does his 16 year old daughter. :cry

I laughed so hard at the look on the offending cager's face when he spots the helmet from the chair.

I'd just "control c"ed the URL and was about to post it here when I saw I'd been beaten to it. So instead I e-mailed it to a few of my pals who aren't AMA members or beemer riders.

All they need to do to the add is put a couple more things in it. One a scene telling him to open wide and her saying who's your daddy now! :laugh :stick

It never does...that is the sad fact. Pretty much like other news bites, the real story, the real facts, are never shown. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Yeah not to turn this into a helmet thread, but I'm kinda shocked that AMA is on a safety kick on one hand while lobbying down helmets on the other hand. Sure, motorcycling is exploding in popularity, but is it any wonder that fatalities are surging even faster?

I didn't think the AMA was really against the helmet laws; I know that ABATE is, in fact here in Michigan, ABATE has become a single-issue group, which is why I won't join.

I had gotten the impression the AMA was against helmets, as well. This was part of my decision to not join. I posted something similar on the airheads chat list, and it really bothered someone, who continued to tell me how wrong I was. I HAVE seen a lot of notices on the AMA site about helmet laws, and how they have "member actions" or something. Is this just something they mention, or do they actively fund removing helmet legislation and stopping it from being enacted? I don't want my money going to something I don't support.

As for ABATE, I agree they are only about repealing helmet laws. Well, that, and the right to have obnoxiously loud pipes for "safety". ;)

I guess I should not have popped off about the AMA's position until I had read it. Now that I have, my understanding is that the AMA is against the mandatory usage laws, but highly in favor of wearing the helmet. Basically, that is how I feel also, the less regulation in our lives, the better, I just wish more folks would make smarter choices.
I couldn't find whether they are actively fighting or funding campaigns to repeal helmet laws in the states that have them. I'm a member because the AMA is NOT a one-issue group, and they are the best lobby we have.

I will admit I also had to go look it up. Kind of interesting how the perception is different then the reality. Just commenting, and we wonder how things can get messed up so easily in life. But I do know that ABATE is anti-helmet and one of the reasons I quit AMA.
