Ok, so i've finally finished most of the fall chores and can start on the project bike. It is a 1990 k100LT with engine guards/crash bars. I haven't put a wrench to it yet, but I have scratched my head at how to remove the guards/bars so the farring pieces can come off.

It appears that perhaps the large nut on the top of the bars must come off, then the lower two bolts into the engine case will remove them. But I can't find any reference to these in my repair manuals.

This parts bike is about to get a new frame to replace the one that is bent from a rear strike. Many of the parts went to my '86 RT but this '90 LT may end up a side car mule.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim

At the top of the bars at the out side edge should be a plastic plug. Remove it and there is a nut holding it to the frame/engine. It will take a good length of extention to reach it. The other two nuts holding the bars are clearly scene at the bottom of the engine by the oil pan. Those attachment pieces are bolted to the oil pan. Hope this helps.

It helps a lot to have an idea of where to start.
I find when I start just wrenching on things, with no idea of what I'm doing, bad things happen. :nono

On page 2 of K bike forums under K75 police bars Burnzilla posted realom parts fiche for K75 crash bars. Basically the same as K100. U know what I mean. Any way a picture is worth a thousand words as they say. Barry :thumb
