View Full Version : New Glarus 07 - Mark your calendars for Jan 19 - 21

RebeccaV
10-04-2006, 08:13 PM
Last year on January 20th a group of approximately 30 motorcyclists and motorcyclist aficionados from as far away as Birmingham AL and Dallas, TX descended upon the quiet town of New Glarus, WI. Throughout the weekend they proceeded to eat some really good food, drink handcrafted beer, tour the state’s finest microbreweries and the Mustard Museum, polka dance, shop, relax, sightsee and enjoy each others company.

Let’s just say they had a really, really good time…. :nod

So it only makes sense to do it again, and people are already asking for details. At first I thought that we should meet in another town, but the rabid polka fans of the group threatened revolt if we did any such thing, so the format will be similar to last year: dinner Friday and Saturday at the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant and random tourist activities in between. The weekend is intentionally loosely planned so that you can join in when and where and with whomever you want. We want you to have fun and there is a LOT to do in the New Glarus area. Please check out the chamber of commerce site:

New Glarus Chamber of Commerce
http://www.swisstown.com/

It will be the same weekend as last year so mark your calendars for the weekend of January 19, 20, and 21, 2007. I’ll post again as it gets closer.

Disclaimer: I do not expect people to ride their motorcycles to this gathering. I might ride if the roads are dry, but the whole point of this fieldtrip is to hang out with other motorcycle enthusiasts and enjoy lovely New Glarus, WI and its fine culinary, cultural and scenic offerings. Details are below.

Friday, January 19th - FISH FRY EXTRAORDINAIRE
7:30pm
New Glarus Hotel Restaurant
100 6th Avenue
(800) 727-9477
www.newglarushotel.com (http://www.newglarushotel.com)
I am really picky about my Fish Fry experience and I loved this place. Great food, atmosphere, service, PLUS, they have a Polka Band which is really, really fun even for non-dancers like me. I am crossing my fingers that my Polka heroes Jack and Viki can be there again….

Saturday January 20th
7:30pm REGULAR MENU
New Glarus Hotel Restaurant
100 6th Avenue
(800) 727-9477
www.newglarushotel.com (http://www.newglarushotel.com)
Yes, two nights in a row at the New Glarus Hotel Restaurant. The second night we ordered Swiss specialties from their regular menu. I had the Kaesechuechli. Their menu is on their website. Hopefully someone else can be the designated yodeler this year. Volunteers??

Chalet Landhaus Hotel and Restaurant
801 Hwy 69
New Glarus, WI 53574
800-944-1716
www.chaletlandhaus.com (http://www.chaletlandhaus.com)
This will be party central again. It is full service and within walking/stumbling distance of everything. If you XC Ski you can ski out of the door and onto the trail. They have a nice lobby with a fireplace. Breakfast is included. No, I am not reserving a block of rooms – reservations are entirely on your own. Yes, there are other lodging options in the area but this place was great. I’ll see if we can get them to keep the bar open later this year. :)

Dang, man. It must suck to be so DAMN IMPORTANT. One of my biggest complaints against the outfit I work for is that they fail to constantly develope new talent. I liken the phenomenon to baseball. Baseball has a farm system. Corporate America is piss poor at developing talent at every level. Your bosses should send a "new guy" to Anahiem. And, if they were really "on the ball" they would send him to a few shows with you to learn the ropes. Perhaps, Bradford, you are past due to become VP of sales.

I think that's my favorite. I have the Pils and the Uffda in the fridge. I hope it keeps a year or so...not too much beer consumed here. But, sometimes when we're out. So this year at NG, Spotted Cow for me.

Thanks for the compliments, but I committed and scheduled this trade show before this soirée was planned. Also I knew going into the job how much travel I would have to do, sometimes it is more and some times it is less... they also did let me take off the whole month of July a few years back to go riding around North America with two friends :heart

I think the reviewer doesn't know how to appreciate a Flemish sour ale. That style of beer should be served around 55 degrees, and he was drinking it at 42 degrees, and mentions he didn't like it as it got "warm". Either that, or the beer is bad. I'd love to try it, myself. :)

Coincidentally, GOOD beer should taste good even if it gets a bit "warm". Of course, many people see "warm" as anything above 35 degrees, or so. That's the reason things (note I don't call it beer) like Budweiser are always served nearly freezing. The colder something is, the less flavor you pick up. I think a lot of people here already know that, of course. Ever have some macrobrew at around 45 degrees? :sick

I've been looking forward to NG2007 since last year and I have a room reserved and vacation scheduled and everything...but, Cameron's Cub Scout Pinewood Derby is on Saturday, so I had to choose.

Kelley was going to join me, and I thought this would be the preferred setting for her to meet all my friends, but I guess that will have to wait.

I'll be thinking about all the fun you're having without me.

As of right now, I still have a room reserved, but I'll be calling to cancel that soon. I don't know if there's any reason to "save" it for one of us, but if someone wants my reservation, please let me know ASAP.

It was a great weekend and so nice to spend time with you all. I hope that everyone made it home safely. The driving was a bit dicey this morning on the way home.

Shoveled twice myself here today but I don't think we got anywhere near the amount you did up there. Some great pics, especially on SmugMug, thank you for sharing them it looks like everyone enjoyed themselves and isn't that what community is all about?

Cool.

You aren't kidding about the roads on the way home.

Yup, we got a dusting compared to you folks.
Had some terrific venison roast at my cousin's belated holiday party, amongst other yummies, sorry I missed the festivities up there but glad I missed the drive home.

Hope everyone made it home in one piece!
