Currently own an '82 R100 and have found it crowded for touring two up. I am considering trying to pick up a K1100RT for more space (while keeping the airhead, of course). I have owned a Suzuki Cavalcade and a Goldwing in the past. How does the K bike compare in physical size with the two Winnebike-o's?

I am interested in ergonomics and 2-up comfort . . . don't really want another behemoth, even though I really liked the Suzuki until parts became a problem.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks.

I don't own a mega-tourer, but have worked on quite a few. You'll find the K-bike a lot smaller and more nimble, as well as lighter. However, IMHO, the weight you do feel seems to be placed higher. Not a bad thing, just my observation. The K-bike accomodations will also be a bit "cozier" than on the others. It will definitely handle much better. I like to refer to the other bikes as "riding a couch." They're good at what they do for what they are.

I can't comment on comparison of the K1100LT (there aren't any "RT"s) to the Suzuki or Goldwing by direct experience. But, I can say that the K1100LT will seem much bigger than the R100 and the additional weight of a passenger and/or luggage will not be nearly as noticable. Based on my experience with both types of bikes, I'd say it will be well worth your while to take the K-bike for a ride to see what you think.

I have the 1200lt. This is my second one. One the first one it, took me a while to get use to the size and weight but now I wouldn't tour with anything else. Two up or alone it's a great ride. Good luck on your choice.
