Ignition Timing R1100R

I'm sure that this topic has been discussed before, but I can't find any reference to it on the search function.

My Clymer's manuel discusses statically timing the engine ignition utilizing a BMW timing unit. Is there any other method, or device which can perform this task? Thanks.

someone please correct me if my assumption about the R1100 is not correct....

You need to go www.advrider.com and scroll down to the bottom of the page to "wisdom" and look for "oilhead timing the easy way"this gives a different approach to setting timing...
