Let slip, in another thread, an image showing the new R12S in the barn here. Ordered it two months ago with the 190 rear, Ohlins, ABS, heated grips, etc. Was smitten with the Aluminum Matte finish, and this kind of Munich bike. Sold the R1100S, which I adored for five years, and two others (Incl. a track bike) to pick up.

Below is the report from the second ride on the bike, written earlier this week...

--------------

Learned this morning I would be on my own tonight. Hmmmm, this means dinner choices...

A). Bowl of cereal at home
B). Take the R12S to an upper crust dinner destination

Tough call, but chose "B" as an intense sun was dropping low on the horizon. Need to take some R12S pics I tell self. Then I recall this small digital camera I'm taking has a decent video mode, so I park it on top of a suction mount and poke the lens over the screen. Works OK as I ride a local county road to the five star dinner location.

This is the first ride since the bring-it-home fling. Then snow happens. Then snow melts. A getting acquainted ride. The 4K RPM break-in limit is a limit, but adhered to. In a word, the 12S is a composed thing. Smooth. Sure footed. When the fury is unleashed at higher RPMs my guess is it will still be like putting on lip balm in the midst of a hurricane.

Anyway, autumn is in the air. A crispness to the surroundings. Long dark shadows. A low sun casts a golden hue. Road opens up at around the 3:00 mark...

A Setting Sun on a County Road - Ride Video (http://www.farson.com/video/s126.wmv)

This is where I stopped to turn around and head towards the classy dinner place where I'm gonna treat myself. The bike is in complete unfarkled stock form, and the setting orb has the aluminum matte finish appearing white hot. As is plainly evident, the BMW Boxer S bike can snack on this tasty tarmac...

Paused when noting snow on Pikes Peak in the distance. The ramparts of Thunder Butte are in the distant foreground...

Ten years ago, May '96, the 11,000 acre Buffalo Creek wild fire roared across the road here. Campfire not completely out. Some pines were spared.

Here's the token autumn colors pic. A new grove of Aspen trees, post fire, are putting on their golden garments and striving for the sky. Decades from now, if I'm fortunate to return to this place, the Aspen grove will be immense, covering thousands of acres. Many Aspen forests are the result of long ago forest fires...

Getting closer to the exclusive dinner destination. The sun is about to bow behind the curtain of a mountain to the right. North Fork of the South Platte, and seen in the video, is to the right. A different horse took me to this location. A nice feature of BMW colors and finishes, along with the design angles of the fairing, is how the angle of light gives the viewer different shades of the same color...

An activity frequently noted in the autumn here... cutting hay for the winter ahead. A pastoral scene, sometimes causing one to consider not just the seasons of the calendar, but the seasons of life...

Arrival! Mmmmmm good! My kinda place. My kinda transportation...

I think you are a sick man, but I like it... :stick

Nice new ride... What is that now four bikes in the stable (Omited for Authors Respect) Am I missing something???

Wish I had looked you up when I was near last/this past week, unfortunately I had to get back home after Colorado Springs, spent too much time showing the wife 12K' passes (Independence, Cottonwood) and a few 10K' (Kebler and some others)... :D

Used 100 gallons of water today to wash off the colorful mud I picked up on her Jimmy last week. Hehehe

We had a grat time and enjoyed the colors whereever we went... :D

Doc :wave

DOC... your tally/inventory estimate is noteworthy for its recollection and proximity to accuracy. Note the underlined word however :laugh. Won't see a sig from me listing what it is the barn, what used to be in the barn. Isn't me :).

So you made it over Kebler? If you did it last weekend, interesting weather you experienced. Did you see the immense Aspen grove there?

Hope it was a great trip. Let's connect next time you're in or passing through CO.

Love your videos and your new R12S ! Awesome ! What road was that shot on and where's that BBQ place located?

Would love to see how you mounted that video camera. My digital camera has a video mode which I haven't really used yet. That could be a solution for shooting while on the bike.

Thanks for taking us along. Oh and by the way, I think I saw your RPM's slip over the 5k mark there a couple of times, but your secret's safe with me.

Really tasty vid. I love how your shadow dances out in front of you in some of the turns. Just beautiful.

I puckered a bit when that red car peaked over the double yellow line. Did you?

Thanks for another great trip. You're an imagist extraodinaire. :clap

Randy, the vid is from Jefferson 126 from Pine Junction on Hwy 285 SW of Denver to Buffalo Creek. There's much more to this road. Other vids from this 50 mile lonely and curvy road where I'm following a friend on his KGT...

And the great BBQ place is a couple miles north of Bailey on Hwy 285. Very much worth a visit!

I found at eBay a suction mount that sticks to just about anything if there's enought surface area. Did a search on "motorcycle mounts". Combined with a light weight digital camera, it is a decent combination for the times one is lazy and just wants to connect the thing and press "record", which I'm finding myself to be more often lately... lazy. :) So, I just stuck the mount to the top of the tank and screwed the tiny digital camera to the top. HTH. Ask if any questions!

You're killing us with these videos, Steve. You're having entirely too much fun. Maybe you could do one where the engine sounds are in the foreground, and the music is background. We like mechanica noise.

Hey Tom, thanks, and you noted that car pulling out kinda far at the end! I also note the shadow here and there in the vid.

Good riding,

Steve

I hear you Rinty... Coincidently these vids were recorded with lame audio digital cameras, or old camcorders. Nasty wind noise. Well, that's my excuse. :)

Here's a better one...
