Hi, I'm looking for any help anyone can give me about this engine protection bar (more of a cage actually), that I have seen on some K75 Police models. I have a picture of one on my website:

If anyone has one for sale, knows of one somewhere, or has info on who produced them or what police departments used them, please let me know.

Thanks!

David

I just perused realoem.com with no luck. The "authority" bikes weren't well represented. I'll check my ETK when I get home tonight, I'm pretty sure it lists all the special equipment.

You have to watch for them on eBay for the best prices.
I found them on the fiche..

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=0574&mospid=47904&btnr=46_0127&hg=46&fg=70

The expensive parts...
01 46712303181 engine protection bar set (CR) 1 $334.00
01 46712303182 engine protection bar set (SW) 1 $300.00
02 46712303135 left engine protection bar (CR) 1 $139.00
02 46712303175 left engine protection bar (CR) 1 $161.00
02 46712303183 left engine protection bar (SW) 1 $136.01
03 46712303136 right engine protection bar (CR) 1 $139.00
03 46712303176 right engine protection bar (CR) 1 $173.00

I always thought it would be cheaper to replace the crank case cover and the valve cover for $110 each and you don't have those ugly bars sticking out getting caught on things.

If I understood the capt correctly, those aren't the bars he's looking for. Unfortunately, those are the only ones on the ETK as well. I was hoping for a specific year having that crossbrace, but I checked 4 years of 75s 100s and none of them show 'em.

I would suspect a) someone (well, two people I guess) made them themselves or b) it was a specific spec for a specific dept and they are one-offs, (well, once again I guess "two-offs)

Thanks for checking all of those resources for me. Maybe I can try to figure out what police departments the bikes came from.

Oh, you're talking about the bars that are behind the rider on the sides.

Sorry for the confusion. It's not the bars behind the rider, but the bars in front surrounding the engine and unlike the regular engine protection bars it does have a piece running across the front of the bike. It's not the best picture, but it's the only one I have.

Hi, David,
The K75RTP were probably more popular in Europe, and moreso on the Continent than in Britain. When I rode through France in the late '70's and early '80's, I remember the French m/c police still using /2 bikes as well as R60RT. That's what they were - R60/6 with the RT fairing. It stands to reason they would use the K75 instead of the larger K100 or K1100 bikes. If you have any contacts in Europe, they might be able to help. Just an idea...

It could be custom made. This is a floor board set I made for my wifes old 94K75SA.
