Hi Gang, Me again, with yet another question about a K75.

We're looking at a '93 K75RT.

They guy who has it says that there is a small rattling coming from the area of the alternator.

He thinks that it is some sort of 'buffer/bushings' that need to be replaced.

What??

What are your thoughts or advice?

How do I tell if it's serious (expensive)?

Should I insist it be fixed before I buy it or have him knock $ off the price?

Thanks,

I had the alternator bearings replaced on my K75 probably 5 or 6 years ago. The symptom was a rattle from the alternator area. I don't remember the fix being too expensive, relatively speaking... maybe a couple hundred dollars? I had the fix done at a dealer.

When my alternator started rattling I pulled it out and inspected it. All the screws that held in the front bearing ring were loose. I threadlockered them and tightened them up and everything has been fine since.

One other thing that could cause a rattle is the rubber drive bushings (tech term: monkey nutz) that are used to cushion the driving vanes from the driven vanes. Either issue is easy to repair. The rubber pieces will deteriorate with time, and are fairly inexpensive. If you pull the alternator to inspect them and the bearings, I would replace them while you have things apart.

Tried to buy the bike, but it was just one thing after another and after about
4 yellow flags, a red flag showed up....wouldn't give me an answer about having a clear title.

We passed, but as luck would have it, we found another K75 and bought it!

Rode it home for my wife. I am impressed by this little bike!

Thanks, for your help
