Did any K75s have an actual fuel gauge or did that start with the K100s?

Thanks,

Downhill Hunter

I think the K75 always had the sender, but needed a place for the gauge readout. Probably the K75RT was the first to have a gauge panel. Same with the K100. The gauges were available in 1986, but were optional and depended on a place to put them...like on the RS panel.

Thanks, Jack,

I looked at an exploded view and it wasn't really clear if there was a level sender or if it was the low fuel light sender.

All the fuel gauges that I've seen on the early K100s were analog, I assume the same holds true for any that might be on a K75.

Another question, is it feasable to remove the lower fairing section on an RT for summer driving and then replace it for fall and spring?

We're going to buy a K75 and have it narrowed down to three...2 RTs and one SA. Kind of tough dediciding which to go after, all three are pretty nice.

All three are some distance away and one of them will have to be shipped...ever had a bike shipped?

Any advice?

The fuel senders on the '86 and up K100 and K75 have an analog readout and a low fuel switch both. I assume that they put the senders on all the bikes and the gauges came later depending on fairings, etc.
Lots of riding position difference between the S and the RT. I have seen folks put K75C bars on the K75S to get a bit more upright. I like the S stock position, however.
There are shipping companies now who utilize a pallet and tie the bike down to it which makes shipping pretty straightforward. There is also a piano moving company that specializes in shipping bikes with a padded special pallet that does a super job of holding the bike without damage. Their trucks are climate controlled for the pianos. I forget the name, but dealerships have used them in the last couple of years. The cost is somewhere around 5 to 7 hundred dollars for most of these movers. I think there are a lot of movers who do a good job...lots of speciality bikes moved in the last 10 years as well as dealer trades.

All K75's came with the fuel sender in the fuel tank and all the wiring harness stuff needed for an analog fuel gauge. BMW also sold a fuel gauge and the wiring necessary to connect the gauge to the correct wiring harness plug. Plug & play, simple. All the owner had do do was invent a clever place to mount it. I've seen K75S's with the gauge mounted in a hole cut into the upper surface of the side fairing panel. I mounted mine in an accessory gauge bar-mount housing.

For shipping, I have used "Federal" five times now without any problems. Two weeks ago, DesMoines,Iowa, to Baltimore,Md was about $650. $10,000 in ins. is included, w/add'l avail. at nominal rate. They use flat pallets designed for shipping a bike. I've never had so much as a scratch. They are fast as well. Called on a Monday, they picked up the bike on Wed. and was at my office the next Wed. They are also very nice to deal with . When you talk w/a clerk, get their name and ext. as it seems to help to speak with the sm.person if you call back. Also, they give discount for AMA members, and I think it's $100 less if you del. to a business address. My business add. is a converted home, w/a v.small parking lot. They do not seem to care as long as it's a business. They are at Funtransport.com. rj
