I'm completely new to bikes and I went out and bought a 2007 R1200S by accident. I wanted a 2006/2007 K1200S and didn't realize what I bought until now. I know this sounds dump but I've never owned a bike in my life and I was always interested in buying a BMW bike. Do you think the dealer will have a problem with me returning the bike for a 2006 K1200S? I was so excited to get the bike....I can't even drive it...haven't been to school and I don't even have my bike license yet...any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

If you haven't put any miles on it, the dealer may be prepared to exchange it for a K 1200 S and the cash difference. The only problem might be that the K bikes are faster moving inventory items than the hexhead S's. I would just take it up with the dealer. If he won't budge you could speak with BMW NA.
I should mention that either of these machines is a whole lot of motorcycle for a first time rider. Your safest course of action would be to park it for at least a year and get some miles in on a 350 or something else that's light.

Good luck, and welcome to the group.

I don't want to sound harsh, but a K1200 as a first bike for someone that hasn't even been to a rider's class and doesn't have a license? That's really not a great idea.

If you do decide to trade for the K1200S, you may want to think about also getting a smaller, used bike to ride for a couple of thousand miles or so until you've developed some reasonable motorcycling riding skills. That could save you some expensive repair to the K1200S. I'm not saying you'll crash, but you may tip over if you're not used to it.

I will second this advice. A 167hp motorcycle is NOT where you want to start. Not to sound morbid - but it might also be where you end. Without exception, the best riders I know started on small bikes which required them to really learn how to the get the most out of the bike. Then when they got "more" bike they know what to do with it.

I agree with Greg. This has all the makings of a future unhappy statistic.

Bought the wrong bike by accident? I really don't think so. But on the outside chance you did, sell it immediately. Motorcycle riding requires a significant amount of attention to detail, which apparently you lack.

Sure he will make the deal. The R will be takin in as a used bike and he will sell you the K as a new bike. It is going to cost you. Is the K worth the difference to you? That is the question you need to ask yourself...

after you check your bike insurance, medical insurance, get a helmet and the rest of the gear, take the rider class and get your license.

You know, I've accidently bought 1% milk, when I wanted 2%. I've accidently bought Hot when I wanted Mild Salsa. I've even accidently put in 89 octane when I mean to select 93. But accidently shelling out $20,000 for the wrong bike? Please...

What's next accidently touring the Alps when you meant to go to Disney Land? :dunno

Like others stated... this smells phisy to me. Punchline is coming right?? General rule of thumb: "you WILL drop your first bike" the sooner you get it over with the better you will feel the second time you do it ;) Do you REALLY want to drop a brand spanking new BMW and deal with the expense? 'Cause it's gonna happen.

As for trading it even to a dealer? I doubt it, that bike is now used according to the DMV, doesn't matter if you only put 30 feet on the odo (not that it measures such a short distance) just the transfer of title is enough to depreciate it instantly. Good luck... on all counts!

I have to agree, I think we are being just a little fooled here. And the person hasn't replied yet... Hmmmm.

Or, someone is really really blonde.

(Not meant to offend any normal blondes out there, so don't jump me on that one.)

I edited my post several times before I actually submitted it. My initial version was kind of harsh, I tend to give people the benefit of a doubt, even if they happen to be a troll. :stick

This reply is the best - sometime NOT saying anything is funny.
