I'm looking, in the not to distant future, to buy an F650CS for my wife as her first bike. I like late model used for financial reasons and am wondering what kind of miles before rebuild people are getting on their motors? Also, anything to stay away from or to look for in particular? She is 5'5" so we'll be looking at the CS model with luggage and bags. We'll be doing local riding to medium distance touring. Other suggestions for accessories? On my1150RT I have found the aftermarket great for fine tuning the bike. Any help or advice we'll be greatly appreciated. Thanks... Oldhway

:wave Oldway,

Great bike, from everyone I hear and the Chain Gang too, the engines are good for between 80-100K miles depending on use. That doesn't mean it will go that far before burning some oil or dropping some power but they are pretty bullet proof.

I only ever heard of one problem with I think the 2002 model. It had (I think) a Magnesium final drive hub that was cracking. Replacements were made under warranty with aluminum. I may have that backwards.

Lot's of people with them, lot's of happy riders own them.

2005 was the last year they were imported into the US.

Do you really think she'll ride it long enough to wear it out ?

I've got an '03 F650GS with over 30000 miles. It shows no sign of quitting or even needing anything.
