Had a guy tell me this weekend that you can push start a R bike if you have a weak battery but still some juice left by putting it in 3rd, getting a couple of guys to give is a running push and drop the clutch.

I forgot to ask him if you could do that with EFI bikes.

Any experiences or thoughts on this??

Yes

If you have enough juice to run the fuel pump you can bump start an oilhead. I have pushed my son-in-law on mine to do this. I am not certain which gear he had it in second or third but we did bump start it.

2nd, 3rd?

i'v never managed to do anything except skid my rear tire that way. i usually go even higher than that

(also moving this to "oilheads")

I've seen the old timers (heh heh) do it in third while jumping on the bike and dropping down sharply on the seat with all their weight.

I was not on the bike. I was pushing so I do not which gear he did it in. Also Bubba based on your pictures my s-i-l is vertically challenged in comparison to you but you are horizontialy challenged in comparison. :D

I've bump started every machine I've owned, except my R1150R, at one time or another. The trick is to drop your butt on the seat at the same time you let the clutch out. Higher gears work best 3rd or 4th.

Be sure to take the bags off or you will hurt yourself. :-)
