I just rebuilt the front ATE caliper on my 1980 R-65. BMW does not include the washer that seals the passage between the two halves. Dealer and parts listing do not show this part, local hydraulic shop has no substitute. HELP, I need to find this item to get the bike back on the road. Any suggestions would be appreciated

wow, that absolutely stinks
I have not taken one apart yet, so I dont know what you need, but if its steel or rubber, I can not imagine why a good napa or other shop could not match it up
even in our garage we have assortment of metric rubber o-rings and steel washers that would have to be near the size you need.
volvo, vw and many others have ate brakes, sure different application, but maybe a small part will switch out,and maybe a decent shop, not just the parts guy, can help you out
best of luck to you

Calipers are not repairable save for procedures for which there are spare parts.

You're asking for parts for a procedure the manufacturer considers unwise.

Ive been thinkin
oh man that means trouble
Ive been thinkin of this guys problem
the ate's and many calipers were cast in 2 pieces. Somebody someplace had to put the two pieces together,
two parts put together, with a passage to be hydrallic pressure , has to leak some time some place, 5 years, 50 years, sometime
so this guy split his caliper, and now needs a o-ring or washer and we dont have an answer
but you know what, some day, some place, it will be us too
either we will split the halves looking to restore, or , we will have an odd ball pressure leak we can not find
guess where it is
this guy, not meaning too, found the problem
if the ates trullly split in half, and there is a seal or gasket or o-ring
somebody gots to have it
me...rebuilding ate calipers, I never split them in half.....YET
this could be one of those classic search questions down the line

This spring I completed a full brake restoration on an '82 R65LS. I diassembled both calipers, cleaned all internals, and installed new seals. The ATE seal kits are readily available and the calipers are not. The seal kit does not contain the o-ring between caliper halfs. I carefully measured the opening as well as the old o-ring and found the closet match in the McMaster-Carr catalog. Several hundred miles and several months later no leaks and fully functional brakes.
